Blonde Boudoir Hong Kong gave me a life-changing colour and cut.
We love getting our nails done at the best nail salons in Hong Kong and getting pampered with these affordable massages, so it’s understandable that we’re always looking for ways to change up our hair. Enter Blonde Boudoir Hong Kong, our very own version of the wildly popular Singapore hair salon. When I saw someone exiting the salon with the most perfect balayage I’ve seen in The 852, I knew I had to try it. See how it went below.
The situation
After getting a buzz cut last year, I’m now in the super awkward phase of growing my long locks back, and I can tell you: it ain’t that fun. With an almost-mullet residing at the back and whispy bits growing at different paces across my head, I was at the end of my tether when I made my appointment at Blonde Boudoir on Elgin Street.
The salon
Lots of my Singapore pals have talked about their fave salon before, a stalwart on the SG scene with international stylists who understand a multitude of hair types. And the Hong Kong boudoir brings the same expertise, thanks to Felix Beck, a German-born stylist with years of experience working with hair in glamourous St Moritz and aboard luxury cruise ships.
The minimal interior has pops of colour, glitter and – most importantly – really good reading materials to make your time in the chair pass quickly. I loved the fact that they started by asking me what I’d like to drink (delicious herbal teas, great coffee and cocktails were all on offer) and I had to go for a Cosmopolitan, which was honestly one of the best cocktails I’ve had during my time in HK, and also got me in the mood for a new look.
The upgrade
To say that Felix upgraded my look is an understatement. He coloured my hair to the perfect peachy/pink that I was looking for using Guy Tang colours, and talked me through the entire process, including colouring the roots separately to give a more mature final look. He also used an Olaplex treatment on my hair (all colours receive this) which left it feeling in a much better condition than when I had arrived.
For the cut, he understood that I didn’t want to lose too much length in my effort to grow it long, so shaped my hair so it’s no longer such an effort to maintain. He also schooled me on using a wonderful Kevin Murphy product called Freehold Cream that gives my hair lift without me spending hours in front of the mirror because I’ve got no time for that!
The conclusion
Blonde Boudoir was the best hair experience I’ve had in Hong Kong so far. It was so good to find a colourist with so much knowledge, especially when I’m going through a lot of changes with my length. I’ll be back for my next hair change and a mighty fine Cosmo soon!
