I spent a day of wellness at The Yoga Barn in Ubud. From yoga and meditation to massage and healing, here’s what to expect.
I’ve been a dedicated yoga practitioner for 7 years, and The Yoga Barn in Ubud is one of those Bali institutions that every yogi will have heard of. What started in 2007 as two studios, a humble healthy cafe and four daily classes has since grown into one of Bali’s best-known yoga studios. It also hosts the famous Bali Spirit Festival, an annual celebration of yoga, wellness and conscious living. But if you think that yoga is all there is to it, think again.
I recently tried the one-day Blissful Retreat, which comes with three-class passes, a 60-minute Relaxing Abhyanga Massage, lunch at the Garden Kafe, a cold-pressed juice and a little wellness goodie bag with my favourite Utama Spice incense. Here, I’ll take you through my one-day retreat, and why I think The Yoga Barn deserves at least a full day on your Bali wellness itinerary.

My one-day Blissful Retreat at The Yoga Barn

I arrived at The Yoga Barn with one goal: to spend a day slowing down and experiencing everything that it has to offer. The one-day Blissful Package is completely self-guided, which I loved because I never felt like I had to rush from one class to another.
I started my day with a morning Hatha yoga class which lasted for 90 minutes (instead of the standard 60 minutes at most yoga studios in Bali). It began with some energising breathwork, before moving through classic Hatha yoga poses. I loved that the class felt welcoming and well-suited for everyone, regardless of their yoga experience.
After rehydrating with a cold-pressed juice and saying hello to the resident puppies, I made my way to the 60-minute Sacred Sounds Meditation – it was a beautiful mix of chanting and instruments. To me, meditation is the hardest part of a yoga practice. But I found the sounds to be really grounding, which allowed me to shift myself out of busy-brain mode.
I spent the afternoon at the Garden Kafe, slowly savouring the healthy, wholesome food. I tried the Pad Thai, which was packed with seasonal ingredients sourced from the local farms. It gave me the energy I needed without feeling stuffed. The drinks are just as thoughtful, with plenty of ingredients that support your immune and digestive systems. I loved that the menu caters for everyone too, offering raw, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Finally, my blissful day ended with a 90-minute Kundalini Gong & Meditation, which started with energetic Kriyas and breathwork before I laid down for a gong sound bath. It was a calming way to finish the day and get myself ready for a good night’s sleep. The whole day, I moved through very different practices and experiences, but together they created the mind-body reset I was hoping for.
Holistic wellness and healing in Ubud

I love the fact The Yoga Barn isn’t a place you simply walk into, take a class, then leave right after. Instead, it’s a calming sanctuary where I can easily dedicate an entire day in the name of self-care. The Blissful Package also included a 60-minute relaxing massage, which I squeezed in between classes. The therapist was attentive, asking questions before the session started so I could get comfortable. The massage rooms are tucked slightly away from the main courtyard, so they feel wonderfully quiet and private.
Curious to explore The Yoga Barn’s traditional healing offerings, I also added a 60-minute Chakra Balancing session with Pak Wayan Wyasa. I went in with nothing more than curiosity, but what unfolded felt far more profound and transformative than I expected. After scanning my aura and chakras, Pak Wayan guided me through what he felt might be blocking my energy flow, before sharing his thoughts on how I could move forward with greater intention.
There was something about being asked to slow down, tune in and really pay attention to what was happening beneath the surface that stayed with me. I walked out feeling lighter, more grounded and, strangely, more in touch with myself. It wasn’t about finding instant answers – it was about opening a door to a different way of seeing myself, and that feeling stayed long after I left The Yoga Barn.
A truly holistic approach to wellness

This is where The Yoga Barn really stands apart from a traditional Bali yoga studio. You can spend an entire day here without repeating any wellness experience. You can move, meditate, book a healing treatment and eat at Garden Kafe. Or, simply sit in the quiet areas for a while.
The Yoga Barn offers a wide range of holistic healing modalities alongside its regular classes. Meanwhile, the Garden Kafe adds a nourishing food element to the experience. There’s also on-site accommodation, so you can stay right in the middle of the action rather than commuting back and forth. In fact, that’s exactly what I did! I could completely relax without having to rush to an early morning class or hurry back after a late-night session.
What I particularly love is the community aspect. You’re surrounded by yoga teachers, wellness practitioners, travellers, creatives and people simply looking to press pause for a while. It feels like stepping into a little wellness ecosystem built around mindfulness.
My final thoughts on The Yoga Barn
The Yoga Barn has earned its reputation as one of the leading wellness destinations in Bali because there’s so much to explore beyond its yoga classes. I spent a full day moving between yoga, meditation, massage, healing and good food, and even stayed on-site so I could experience the community at a slower pace.
Whether you have an hour for sound healing, a full day for wellness treatments and nourishing food, or several days for a dedicated retreat, there’s room to make the experience your own. Come for the yoga, but stay for everything else.
