Here at Honeycombers HQ, we like to think of ourselves as in-the-know insiders on the ground, bringing you the latest and greatest on the island before anyone else! And as part of our duty to share all-things awesome and juicy, sometimes we have to deliver “oooh!”-worthy whispers that we just can’t keep to ourselves!
So here’s some hot and juicy gossip that we’ve heard on the streets this week – but shhh! You didn’t hear it from us….
Whisper One: Celeb Street Food Chef Will Meyrick is on the move!
Don’t worry, the owner and awesome chef of everyone’s fave gourmet destinations [Mama San, Sarong, Tiger Palm and Hujan Locale] isn’t going anywhere, in fact, we’ve heard quite the opposite. Word on the street is that this unstoppable foodie force has just taken over Republik 45 in Kerobokan, and will soon be transforming the space into a sumptuous sanctuary of Thai cuisine! If you’ve ever dined at any of Chef Will’s scrummy restos, you’ll know this is one to add to the list when the doors finally swing open!
Whisper Two: Batu Belig is about to get Spicy!
If you love Spice by Chris Salans [located in both Sanur and Ubud] foodies down south you’ll want to get excited because we hear that this stylish gastro-bar is gearing up to hit the Batu Belig strip! And just like its sister establishments, the Seminyak Spice will be bringing all of your fave locally sourced ingredients and flavours to the table, plus the healing properties of Indonesia’s aromatic roots, herbs, and, of course, spices. If you can’t wait until the opening, you can check out the chef himself at this year’s Ubud Food Festival, when he’ll be teaming up with celeb kitchen babe, Farah Quinn.
Whisper Three: AMO Spa is hitting the ‘Gu!
With Seminyak now brimming with luxury spas and massage parlours on every jalan, the spa of all spas, AMO Spa, is soon to make the leap to Canggu, swapping the swanky streets of Petitenget for sun-kissed surfers. Not only the ‘Gu’s hottest new opening since Finns Beach Club set up shop in Berawa, the location of the new spa explains other unanswered questions that Canggu’s locals have been wondering for a while now: what’s replacing the MASSIVE space that was once La Dunia? Yup, you guessed it, AMO Spa is taking over that epic venue just footsteps from Deus and Betelnut Cafe, and we can’t wait to get our Shellac on at this happening new beauty hub!
Whisper Four: Da Maria 2.0?
On account of a little bit of Instagram stalking [come on, we all do it], the goss of the week is the latest from the Da Maria team. Discreetly and cryptically suggested on famed restaurateur Maurice Terzini’s personal Insta page, a picture of an in-progress building site has been very recently posted with the caption: “Da Luigi Pizza + Bar / Canggu June 2017”. Now, we’re no Sherlock Holmes, but this says to us that the Da Maria massive are coming to Canggu – can we hear an “OMG”?! Watch this space…
Whisper Five: First there was Sisterfields….
Now, the deets on this whisper are still very hush-hush, but a little birdie has told us that the 8 Degree Projects boys are soon to blow up the Petitenget strip! And when we talk about 8 Degree Projects, we’re referring to the hospitality superstars behind Sisterfields, Boss Man, Expat. Roasters and Bikini. These guys have already dominated one corner of Seminyak Square, and now we hear they’ve just got their creative hands on a ginormous plot of land at the top of Petitenget, and they’ll be bringing a handful of new concepts to the island for us to drool over! Now, time to sit back and let the magic unfold…
