For Bali’s hungry bunch, Canggu is the go-to destination for wining, dining, and tucking into delish cuisines from around the world. And while we love eating our way across continents, we just can’t get enough of truly authentic Italian food. We’re talking thin-crust pizzas with cheese that stretches for miles, and piping hot plates of homemade pasta, piled high with farm-fresh ingredients, drizzles of olive oil and a sprinkling of grated parmesan. In fact, we’re hungry just thinking about it. So that’s why we booked a hot-seat at Cantina Classe – the newest Italian restaurant to open in Canggu.
This rustic Pasta e Pizzeria is bringing the authentic flavours of Italy to the heart of Canggu. And just like nonna’s home kitchen, everything here is handmade, from the fresh pasta and pizza dough, to the pesto and creamy béchamel sauce. And it wouldn’t be a proper Italian experience without bottles of vino and countless signature cocktails, so Cantina Classe has ticked all of those boxes too. The best bit is, you get to enjoy all of this and more in Cantina Classe’s uber Instagrammable dining space, transporting you to the cobblestone streets of Italy before you can say bellissimo!
Vintage interiors set the scene for your rustic Italian feast
Your culinary journey to Italy begins the moment you step through Cantina Classe’s arched glass doors. Take a moment to awe at the stunning interiors, vintage-style decor and cosy little nooks worthy of your Instagram feed. Looks familiar? Well, if you’re no stranger to baking pizzas, you’ll know that the restaurant’s architecture is a replica of a giant brick pizza oven. Brick walls, warm lighting and rustic vibes with modern elements – all of this sets the scene for a casual lunch with the family or a romantic dinner date with bae. And that’s before you’ve even tucked into Cantina Classe’s Italian creations…
Fresh pizza and pasta, packed with authentic flavours
Everybody loves pasta, especially when it’s freshly made daily and cooked to al dente perfection. Well, that’s Cantina Classe’s specialty. Our favourite has to be the classic Penne Pesto, which just so happens to be chef-recommended. The handmade penne pasta is generously coated in pesto sauce, topped with a roasted herb chicken leg and a sprinkle of nuts. Then, for a sophisticated take on an Italian home classic, try the Fettuccine Truffle Carbonara, featuring fresh fettuccine pasta in truffle carbonara sauce, served with grilled Bifuteki beef.
Dining with your entourage? You can’t go wrong with a table full of thin-crust pizzas, perfect for sharing. A must-try for cheese lovers is the Four Cheese Pizza, where the home-baked dough is slathered with creamy béchamel sauce, then topped with mozzarella, gorgonzola, goat cheese, parmesan and chopped fresh parsley. Another favourite here is the Prosciutto Pizza with tangy tomato sauce, prosciutto cotto, arugula, mozzarella and gorgonzola cheese, finished with a dash of extra virgin olive oil.
Say saluti to Cantina Classe’s signature cocktails
While we love pairing our pasta with a rich vino rosso or a crisp vino blanco straight from an Italian wine cellar (and don’t get us wrong, you can do that here too!), sipping your way through Cantina Classe’s list of quirky cocktails is highly recommended. Take your pick from a selection of signatures, courtesy of the inventive mixologists. Love pizza? The Liquid Pizza is a fun concoction of vodka, tomato juice, lime juice, Foamee, basil syrup, salt and pepper. Or, for a taste of Indonesia-meets-Italy, try the Nusantara Tiramisu, a sweet cocktail made with dark rum, cold brew, mascarpone and a shot of espresso.
Honestly, we can’t get enough of Italian food. And when it’s fresh, homemade, and dished up in interiors to-die-for, we could feast on pizza and pasta all day, every day. Luckily for us, that’s exactly what Cantina Classe is all about. Buon appetito, Honeys!
