365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS)’s annual Are You at Risk? free lung cancer screening campaign is now open for registration through 15 November 2026. The screening is organised in partnership with AstraZeneca, and has benefitted more than 200 beneficiaries since its launch in 2023, helping them take a proactive step towards their lung health and treasure the moments we breathe for.
Are You at Risk? is open to smokers between 50 to 80 years old with 20 pack years history or more, who are continuing to smoke or have quit less than 15 years ago, as well as non-smokers with a first-degree family history of lung cancer between 50 to 75 years old. Eligible individuals must hold a valid blue or orange CHAS card, or a Public Assistance Card.
As Singapore’s only free lung cancer screening campaign, Are You at Risk? helps remove financial barriers that may prevent financially vulnerable individuals from accessing screening and early detection before symptoms appear. Lung cancer continues to be among the top three cancers affecting both men and women in Singapore. According to the Singapore Cancer Registry Annual Report 2023, the five-year period across 2019 – 2023 saw over 6,190 deaths from lung cancer and the disease made up over 10% of all new cancer cases diagnosed. Around 60% of lung cancer cases are diagnosed at a later stage, when the disease may have spread to other organs, limiting treatment options and opportunities for early intervention. The five-year survival rate of Stage 1 lung cancer can be as high as 92%, but falls to less than 10% at Stage 4.
Lung cancer may not cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. As the disease progresses, individuals may experience symptoms such as persistent cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, recurring respiratory infections, unexplained weight loss or fatigue. Eligible participants for the Are You at Risk? free lung cancer screening will undergo a Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) scan, a painless and highly accurate method to detect small abnormalities in the lung, including those associated with early-stage lung cancer. For people at higher risk, regular screening can support early detection when treatment may be more effective.
“There are many people who delay screening out of fear or false reassurance, but taking proactive steps towards our health is one of the most important things we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones,” said Mr Andrew Soh, Assistant Director of Fundraising, Marketing, and Volunteer Management at 365CPS. “For those who are at a higher risk of lung cancer, screening is an important step towards early detection. We encourage eligible individuals to take that step today and treasure the moments we breathe for”.
“Risk for lung cancer is not determined by smoking status alone. A close family history, increasing age, exposure to second hand smoke and certain workplace or environmental exposures can all be relevant when assessing an individual’s risk. Some people may underestimate their risk because they feel well or have never smoked. I urge individuals to check if you are eligible and have risk factors that meet the screening criteria, to take this important step to register and discuss screening with a healthcare professional, ” shared Dr Jim Teo Yeow Kwan, Consultant Respiratory Physician at O2 Lung Centre.
