These bars host various rock, pop and jazz bands that will have you dancing seven days a week. Check out our guide to top Wan Chai clubs.
There are an enormous array of live music venues and live jazz bars in Hong Kong that cater to different Hong Kong bands and DJs. While Wan Chai is most known for its nightlife, there are actually quite a number of cool bars and restaurants that offer live music as well! From the craziest rock bars to acoustic live sessions, here are the best Wan Chai clubs, restaurants and live music venues that you should check out.
1. The Wanch
Opened in 1987, The Wanch is one of the longest standing Wan Chai clubs and live music venues in Hong Kong, and you can tell by all the old photographs of Hong Kong and show posters mounted on the walls. The gigs here usually begin around 6pm, with performers ranging from international rock bands and jazz musicians, to local indie bands. The music at The Wanch plays seven days a week, so head down and hit the dance floor.

2. Junon
Situated next to Hopewell Centre, traditional French restaurant JUNON is divided into two parts – fine dining and bistro. Not only do they serve a comprehensive array of delicate French cuisine for you to enjoy, they also host regular live music performances to add to the ambiance of the evening.

3. Amazonia
A not-so-secret shame for many at Honeycombers Hong Kong, Amazonia is perhaps the wildest rock bar in Wan Chai. While Rapunzel, a reggae punk rock Filipino band, will get your adrenaline pumping, another in-house band – The Ice Box Band – plays exceptional pop rock and heavy metal hits. From 8pm to 6am every night, expect hours of furious howls and shredding guitars along with cheap drinks and a beer-soaked dance floor.

4. The 50’s Bar & Restaurant
The 50’s Bar & Restaurant… even the name is oh so nostalgic. This is the place for people looking for both a fine dining experience and quality live entertainment. Want something retro instead of the typical rock ’n’ roll? Head over, to enjoy a fun night of swinging jazz or 80s Cantopop. In-house band The Magic Touch play their killer oldies from Monday to Saturday starting from 8.30pm, so get prepared to take a trip down memory lane. We love the dancing and sing-along sessions here.

5. Escape
It’s easy to miss this totally danceable spot, but Escape actually has a floor area of over 7000 sq-ft, making it the most spacious of all the Wan Chai clubs! Resident DJs spin house music sets from early evening to late morning and impressive live bands belt out your favourite tunes almost better than the real thing. Don’t forget to enjoy some classic Thai and Filipino cuisine, to balance out the affordable drinks.

6. Joe Bananas
Joe Bananas is a stalwart on the Wan Chai bar scene, having moved to multiple locations and survived. Live bands perform from 10pm to 4am on Sundays and Mondays and 8.30pm to 5.30am from Tuesday to Saturday, making the spot a popular hangout for business people working close by. With reasonably priced cocktails and beer and the right group of friends, you’re bound to have a memorable night.

7. Cinta-J
Cinta-J is most well-known for their amazing Filipino, Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian cuisine, but they also have a range of resident bands playing every night of the week starting from 7.30pm. Expect classic pop, rock and ballads (they even take requests!) and lots of dancing on weekends.

1563 at the East (CURRENTLY CLOSED)
Located in the iconic Hopewell Centre, 1563 at the East is a trendy bar and restaurant large enough to fit 300 people, but the venue is best known for having a diverse range of acoustic bands and independent artists taking to the stage. Just in case you’re wondering, 1563 is a popular chord progression that often appears in the making of Cantopop – it all makes sense now, right?
