These vegan and vegetarian burgers from recently opened Veggi Monster in Sheung Wan had even the meat eaters on our team wanting more
From vegetarian dumplings and to vegan ice cream at Lab Made, plant-based food is definitely not boring! And at Veggi Monster in Sheung Wan have found the perfect balance between delicious vegetarian food and mouthwatering cheese burgers. By incorporating nutritious legumes and organic fresh vegetables, they make sure everyone’s getting a healthy yet satisfying meal.
Burger indulgence
Dark Giant, the edgy charcoal bun burger is one of their signature dishes, but it’s not just a gimmicky item as some might speculate. The patty is made of black beans, potato, quinoa and bread crumbs. Despite feeling a bit mushy at first bite, the huge burger tastes great, with the melted soy cheese and aromatic black truffle sauce working well together. While Dark Giant won the popular vote, Flame Rex was my personal favourite. The tofu and beetroot patty is a lot firmer than expected and tastes really savoury, with the mustard sauce giving it an extra kick!
Fuel your body with refreshing salad and wraps
If you’re in the mood for something light and refreshing, Veggi Monster also has an array of salad boxes for you to select from, such as the Fusilli Pasta Salad with Pumpkin Sauce, Garden Salad and Quinoa Mushroom Salad. The quinoa salad is mixed with fresh cherry tomatoes, crunchy lettuce and mushroom, and – even though it wasn’t seasoned enough for my liking – it’s a zesty meal for those who appreciate simplicity in a salad.
The lion mane mushrooms add a nice chewy texture to the Lion & Quinoa wraps, while the added vegan mayonnaise and quinoa make them rich and saucy. Plus, they also have an Avocado & Cashew wrap, as well as a Garden Life wrap with portobello mushrooms on the menu, I’ll definitely be back for these $40 gems. Maybe those will be a nice surprise as well!
At the moment, Veggi Monster only does takeout, but feel free to have a quick bite of that burger right outside the deli. See you there!
