Booked: Tai Kwun Contemporary’s Hong Kong Art Book Fair
The first edition of a new international art book fair will soon take place at Tai Kwun on 11-13 January. Serving as a platform for art book publishers and artists to showcase and sell a wide selection of art books – including photography books, art albums, zines, art historical and many more that challenge the idea, content and form of the traditional books – Booked hopes to encourage art appreciation among local readers and art lovers.

Jazz+ : Shaolin Fez at The Fringe Club
As part of the new Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe project, Phase II, Jazz + is a series of cross-over performances between jazz and other genres – starting with the EP launch party by Shaolin Fez on 12 January. The band will deliver original Symphonic Jazz Rock music from its newly crowdfunded EP as well as other popular tunes. Revenue from all sales of the new EP will be donated towards refugee relief efforts in Yemen, what are you waiting for?

LGBT+ Artist Talk
The LGBT+ Artist Talk, held by local artist and educator Tse Ka Man in collaboration with Carman Fung and Leon Yee, hopes to draw attention to the context of a contingent, colonial, pre-2047 Hong Kong in constant flux and transition. The exhibition showcases beautiful portraits of members of the city’s LGBT+ community, for visitors to question the idea of home, identity and community. There will also be a panel discussion and book signing session for those who want to learn more about queer issues.

Laugh Kwai Fong
Are you a fan of stand-up comedy in Hong Kong? Featuring the city’s top comedians including Vivek Mehboobani, Ben Quinlan, Maitreyi Karanth, Tamby Chan, Ryan Hynek, Aly Bongo and Mary Ng, Laugh Kwai Fong will be taking place at lounge/event space The Nest on 12 January – definitely one of the funnest things to do this weekend in Hong Kong – expect loads of giggles!

Sundaze Reggae on the Terrace
Relax and chill out! Local vegetarian restaurant MANA is partnering with some of the greatest musicians and health-conscious folks from the neighbourfood to present Sundaze Reggae in PoHo on 13 January. Featuring reggae performances by Blood Dunza and Obeahmix, as well as a free dancehall yoga workshop by Yoga BamBam, it’s definitely one of the best things to do this weekend in Hong Kong (even if you’re just in for the delicious craft beers and vegetarian food).
