Yearning for a tropical escape, Anshu Rijhwani and her family went on a quick getaway to Villa Candi Kecil Tiga in Ubud, Bali, courtesy of Villa Finder.
With majestic mountains, awe-inspiring waterfalls, mysterious canyons, iconic paddy fields, and incredible natural beauty, it’s not difficult to see why Bali is revered as the Island of the Gods. From wellness retreats to adventurous activities, to cultural immersions, I was keen to experience the divine allure of Bali, first-hand. Using Villa Finder, I was able to secure a stay with my family in one of Ubud’s most fantastic resorts: Villa Candi Kecil Tiga.
My review of Villa Candi Kecil Tiga
The location: Just the right amount of buzz
A popular town in central Bali, Ubud is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene. In the midst of lush greenery, you’ll find art galleries, handicraft stores (which beat the ones in the shopping malls any day), temples, and palaces which give a glimpse of the fascinating local heritage. Just a stone’s throw away from the buzz of Ubud, Villa Candi Kecil Tiga provides easy access to the area’s most famous sites while retaining a sense of serenity – ideal for families to spend quality time together.
We visited the Monkey Forest, which was just 15 minutes drive away; and the Goa Gajah Temple (Elephant Cave), which was even nearer to the villa. Whether or not you’re a Ganesha follower like me, the latter is an absolute must-visit for its dramatic architecture and other-worldly ambience – not to mention its historical significance, too. Next, we went on a day trip to Mount Batur. With the Rice Terrace and the Instagrammable Aloha Swing, the trek was well worth it. (On another note, we’d recommend hiring a bike instead of a car to save time – the traffic can be a bit of a nightmare!)
Villa Candi Kecil Tiga: A tropical paradise
Translating to “small temple”, Villa “Candi Kecil Tiga” is a blissful oasis like no other. The three-bedroom property captures the spirit of traditional Balinese design, with palm thatching and wooden beams that are juxtaposed by clean, white walls. In the lawn is a glistening private pool alongside swaying trees – the setting of a true tropical paradise. Inside the house, you’ll find a huge living and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, as well as queen-sized beds and ensuites for all the bedrooms.
In addition to the layout of the villa, we were the most impressed by how well-maintained it is. We were also greeted by warm and friendly caretakers: Ayu, Kedak, and Dewa. Ayu cooked us a stellar Balinese breakfast (the tempeh was the highlight!). I even learned traditional recipes from her, including Nasi Goreng and Gado Gado, which are now appreciated by my friends back home in Hong Kong.
Whether you’re looking for a tranquil escape, a gourmet trip, or thrilling things to do such as river rafting the ziplining, Villa Candi Kecil Tiga offers unparalleled accessibility, yet remains a quiet escapade for weary travellers. Needless to say, it’s the perfect option for a group of friends of two families seeking a hideaway in the tropics. (Thanks, Villa Finder!)
Some final thoughts…
