From savouring the finest raw cheese at LA CREMERIE to tuna tartare at A.O.C. Eat & Drink, we’re dedicated to scouting the best possible French styled food in different French restaurants in Hong Kong. In Kowloon Bay, Le Pan contemporary French fine dining restaurant has created a new sort of destination dining experience for the region – and we are excited to show you why we love it.
Le Pan: An elegant fine dining experience in Kowloon Bay
Le Pan is hidden away in the Goldin Financial Global Centre, a commercial building in Kowloon Bay. But once the 1920s-style doors open, you step into a completely different world.
Across 10,000 feet, the elegant restaurant is decked out in luxurious white marble, white leather seating and white tablecloths, the ultimate in refined fine dining. Separated from the main dining area, four huge private dining areas can booked for private functions and guests can even book a seat at the chef’s table, where they can watch Head Chef Edward Voon at work
Contemporary French cuisine
Once seated, the attentive staff make sure you want for nothing. Home baked bread in a range of flavours arrives at the table, still warm from the oven, before a selection of stunning canapes are presented. The menu at Le Pan changes on a seasonal basis, but on the day we visited, we were treated to gazpacho balls, cheese three ways and a selection of shellfish that were divine.
The restaurant serves a selection of tasting menus to suit your hunger levels, and we were lucky enough to sample five courses. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is plated impeccably – hello, Instagram! – and tastes just as amazing.
We loved the Kaluga Queen Hybrid caviar with sea urchin, botan shrimps and crustacean jelly. The dish was extremely rich thanks to the caviar and the sea urchin but the yuzu cut through this and left us wanting more.
The Bouillabaisse with aromatic vegetables and stewed fish tortellini was one of the tastiest dishes we tried. The bouillabaisse itself was light and refreshing with the tomato adding a delightful sweet touch, while the tortellini was packed full of tender fish.
Another highlight from the menu was the Kuhlbarra barramundi with mild herbs, braised fennel and beurre blanc. We loved the crispy skin on the barramundi and the way the fish paired with the flavour of the fennel.
To finish up, we were treated to a chocolate, banana, caramel dessert that pushed us over into full on food coma territory and made it difficult to go back to work.
Why visit Le Pan?
We had a great time dining at Le Pan and really enjoyed the way that the servers introduced each dish and suggested how to enjoy to get maximum flavour from each one. Don’t be deterred by the location of the restaurant, as it’s only a short 20-minute taxi ride from Hong Kong Island and the stunning food is well worth the journey.
