Crafted by actor and illusionist Geoff Sobelle, HOME is a heartwarming story full of imagination and magical moments… and it all takes place in an actual house on stage!
The 47th Hong Kong Arts Festival is presenting a fascinating array of performances from across the globe such as Asia Pacific Dance Platform and World Music Weekend. On 14-16 March, American actor and illusionist Geoff Sobelle will bring the dazzling HOME to Lyric Theatre at HKAPA – it takes place in an actual house built on stage. How brilliant! Documenting the simplest drama and hilarious moments of everyday life, it’s undoubtedly a witty and wise, as well as a life-affirming performance that’s worth a watch. Here’s why we’re excited…
We’re excited about HOME at Hong Kong Arts Festival 2019
Looking to catch an epic show that will tug at your heartstrings? On an empty stage, Sobelle builds a complete house in front of us to tell the story of residents moving in, settling down, cooking, showering, celebrating birthdays and moving on. To begin with, this is an impressive visual storytelling that has us intrigued.
Knowing that our lives are heavily influenced by our surroundings and by who have gone before us, HOME serves as an incredible study of human behaviour and the passage of time. It also hopes to raise concerns about the current housing dilemmas, both local and global, something that Hong Kongers are all too familiar with.
By incorporating amazing choreography, illusion, live music, home-spun engineering and audience interaction, the show insightfully asks the audience: What is a house? Where is home? What makes the two same or different?
Revealing our relationship with living spaces, as well as the physical and emotional bonds that connect us, it’s a masterpiece of sensual storytelling, tantalising sounds and splendid choreography. And of course, all things grandiose aside, we’re also here for the little drop of humour that the show has promised to deliver.
HOME, 14-16 March, Lyric Theatre, HKAPA, 1 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Tickets available at Urbtix.
