Have you ever thought about laser treatment to reduce skin pigmentation? Leticia Bishop went over to Dr Jolie's clinic in Jordan to give it a go
Entering the world of Laser Treatments can be scary. This was my first time dipping my toes into the world of lasers, so we’re in this together! Hi, I’m Leticia and I’m confessing my beauty addiction to you. There is so much more to skincare than the products you can apply to your face, so I thought I’d start exploring the world of treatments and what Hong Kong has to offer. While you may already be familiar with the likes of facials and acupuncture, I recently went along to Dr. Jolie to experience laser treatment for the first time.
Is a pain-free laser treatment possible?
I hoped this experience was going to be smooth, free from pain, and that I’d see real results, without having to have ten treatments! Maybe I was dreaming… or perhaps not, you will see!
First, a little bit about Dr Jolie. She is very passionate about correcting the eyes, as she’s a medical doctor and with a specialty in ophthalmology. Her clinical work mainly focuses on corrective micro eye surgery. During her years of practice, she realised there are a lot of non-invasive options to help the eyes of her patients before resorting to a surgical solution, and that’s what inspired her to set up her clinic.
The experience at Dr Jolie Beaute and Aesthetic Centre
Dr Jolie is a true expert on the skincare treatment scene. Her clinic is located in Jordan; conveniently directly to the right from exit A. Greeted by a friendly nurse at the reception, it’s a small office with a single treatment room, which means all attention is on you!
To start, I had a consultation with her in the treatment room – we chatted for a while, like true skincare besties. I told her about my concerns and areas I wished to improve a little, like my dark veiny under eyes, eyelids getting lower and also my overall skin pigmentation. Next Dr Jolie took some snaps and went through the images with me; going through the different skin layers and possible areas to work on. We went with the Helios III laser treatment, primarily used for toning and reducing pigmentation.
With all of Dr Jolie’s medical experience, you feel completely safe in the knowledge you are in good hands. With treatments, I sometimes worry something might not go according to plan (and I’m sure we have all seen horror images of beauty procedures going wrong!) If something unexpected happens, I feel it’s super important to have a medically trained professional, with a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy and the products they are using. Dr Jolie and her staff made me feel completely at ease.
On to my treatment. I asked if I was to expect any downtime from the laser, she explained there is very little, however, there may be some dryness afterwards, and that some people have some breakouts in the days after.
The nurses were very kind and explained everything to me about the treatment steps before starting. I felt safe throughout and the procedure took around 30 mins. For me, the Helios laser was not painful, not exactly relaxing however! More like warm fine needles tapping over your skin. Afterwards, the nurses applied a hydrating mask (due to the drying effect) for 10 minutes. Once this was removed, there was barely any redness and I was good to go.
After the treatment
They explained to me that I would see the full results after 20 days, hence why I have waited to give you all my thoughts! That night, my skin did feel dry, but after doing my normal nighttime skin routine it felt fine. For around a week, my skin went through a purging type phase with plenty of small little red pimples. I was kind of expecting that to happen, as I had been warned it did happen to some people, however my skin has thankfully finished that phase now.
Each day, I looked at my skin pigmentation, particularly one large dark spot on my nose, to gauge if I could notice a difference. Now, after the full 20 days have passed, I can definitely see the spot is way less noticeable; it’s not entirely gone, but looks more dissolved into my skin.
Now one thing I can not stress enough is if you’re getting treatment for pigmentation, then SUN PROTECTION is a non negotiable. This means not only SPF50 (minimum!) sunscreen, but also a hat, sunglasses, and seeking shade. Because there’s absolutely no point in paying for treatments like this if you’re just going to turn around and damage your skin again, right?
Dr Jolie also does botox and fillers as well as other laser machines. I already have some other ideas in mind for my next visit! I can honestly say I felt in very capable and professional hands throughout my experience at Dr Jolie’s clinic – I will be back.
Thanks, Dr Jolie.
