2020 is not all doom and gloom. We've seen some amazing ideas come out of the madness, and Horizon–a virtual music event series filmed right here in HK–is one of our faves
When you’ve run out of online fitness classes and TV shows to binge, life in times of Covid-19 can be a bit tough, especially for those of us who usually spend time lapping up the live music scene HK has to offer. Born out of the frustration of lockdown and quarantine in 2020, Horizon is a music event series that brings together great sounds, creativity, and the most stunning Hong Kong backdrops to help you keep happy during the hard times.
What is Horizon?
A collaboration between Will Poole, Alex Nude, Derry Ainsworth, and Hugo Belloy, Horizon first came on the scene in July 2020. With a desire to engage people in new ways with music, the three-part series featured DJ sessions from Johnny Hiller, Alex Nude, and Willer. But this was no average livestream.
Each event was filmed on the rooftop of one of Hong Kong’s most epic buildings: Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong. With the world renowned HK skyline as the backdrop, artist Ophelia Jacarini collaborated on the visual aspect of the recordings, along with Shadow Factory on AR/VR and Derry Ainsworth with the videography. The result? Perhaps the slickest multi-media production we’ve seen out of Hong Kong when it comes to music events.
Weaving in drone footage with shots of the city and the music of the DJs, each of the three Horizon events showcases the best Hong Kong has to offer. Art dances across the city as the music plays; the perfect antidote to months of no live music events. And the world knows it’s a pretty special project too, with international audiovisual dance content platform Dance Television premiering the series–the first time a project from HK has been featured.
On top of providing awesome entertainment, the team at Horizon is hoping to give back to the community by supporting ImpactHK. You can donate to help them reach their $5000 goal on Simply Giving.
Lucky for us, Horizon has a Series 002 in the works. The group is looking to diversify its music and art genres, and will also be shooting from some fresh new perspectives. And we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
