Not only a sun-soaked daytime destination, The Lawn is Canggu’s local lounge, live music venue and front-row sunset seat...
When the sun is shining and the weather is sweet, you can bet your Rupiah that Canggu’s cool crowds will be flocking to one particular beachfront spot: The Lawn. This boho-chic beach club on the black sands of Batu Bolong is the place for sunshine-soaking, infinity pool-dipping and oceanfront gazing in the ‘Gu. It’s one of our absolute fave places to settle in for a day of cocktails, seaside-inspired cuisine and good island vibes aplenty – all best enjoyed on one of the many squishy daybeds that face directly out towards the ocean…
But this breezy beach lounge isn’t only a daytime destination for lazing your sunny days away. By nightfall, The Lawn is exactly where you need to be for a golden hour that really glows, with front-row seats to Bali’s sunset show and the hypnotic soundtrack of nearby waves rolling in. And if you time your day-to-night hangs right, this happening spot is also where you’ll find some of Canggu’s biggest events, with big-name artists regularly gracing the beachfront stage…
Yup, just when we thought we couldn’t love our lazy lounges at The Lawn any more, we’ve found three more reasons why this iconic oceanfront destination needs to top your list of must-dos in Canggu.
Front-row sunset seats
Sitting in prime position on Bali’s south-western coastline, we can’t think of a better place to perch for when golden hour is doing its thang. From the days when The Lawn was exactly that (a lush patch of grass where Canggu locals gathered at dusk over a few frosty beers) to now, with its two-storey structure and commanding views over the Indian ocean, The Lawn is – and always has been – Canggu’s original sunset destination that delivers the candy-coloured goods. Spilling right out onto the beach, you can sit with your toes in the black sand from one of the cool new cabanas, or raise a glass to the setting sun beside the glittering infinity pool, feasting with your island fam on gourmet nibbles with bottle service to keep you topped up. There’s a reason why The Lawn has serious sunset status, and this is it…
It’s all locally-inspired
We’ve gotta take our sun-hats off to The Lawn. While this trailblazing destination could easily be swept away by its fame and fanfare, this Canggu legend hasn’t forgotten its roots. Supporting the local community and Bali’s backyard in every way possible, The Lawn’s mission is to always enrich and support Canggu’s already-vibrant community and culture, leaving the local environment in a better state than they found it. And that they have done…
From the weekly beach clean-ups every Sunday with Eco Bali Recycling, to incorporating local Balinese materials and craftsmanship into the design and makeup of its interior, The Lawn fits right in to its beachfront location, honouring the ocean, sunset, people and traits of the local area in all areas. From the cocktails that are infused with local Balinese arak and ingredients from local farmers (try the Espresso Martini with coffee-infused arak, or the Pandan Flower infused with pineapple and kemangi) to the open-air structure that’s made using all-natural materials, The Lawn has become a real local legend – in more ways than one.
Epic events & iconic weekly parties
When you’re lazily lounging beneath your easy-breezy, sun-drenched umbrella and feasting on The Lawn’s signatures (like the pan-fried barramundi, or the creamy burrata with lemon, basil and ginger) it’s hard to imagine this leisurely destination becoming a hopping party spot. But once the sun goes down and Canggu’s cocktail crowds come out, The Lawn is home to some of the biggest events in town. Kicking off the weekend on a serious high, The Lawn’s famous Friday party is where you’ll find 2-4-1 cocktails from 8 – 10pm, live DJs ’til late and a throng of beach babes dancing beneath the stars – every single weekend.
And if you keep your eyes peeled on The Lawn’s event calendar, you can catch huge international names like Peking Duck and Six60 as part of their surprise “Secret Sundays” shows and annual festivities (Halloween is always killer here!). But that’s not all. This August, The Lawn will be hosting the first ever Canggu Surf, Music & Short Film Festival, designed to give back to the local community and connect those with a love of the ocean. The grass really is greener at The Lawn…
