Honeycombers’ Halloween Music Playlist: 12 songs to turn up the party mood on fright night

Dance till you drop [dead] on Halloween with this killer party playlist from the Honeycombers team. Get your freak on!

You might regret the costume, you might get spooked out of your wits at a Day of the Dead party, and don’t even get started on those ghastly ghost stories. If Halloween’s going to be crummy for you, at least you still have the music to keep your spooky spirits up. We’ve put together a killer party playlist that’s more boogie than boogeyman.

1. Thriller – Michael Jackson

You should be banished to hell if you don’t include this ditty in your party jams.

2. Backstreet’s Back – Backstreet Boys

Camp choreography, ghastly costumes, elaborate narratives… they just don’t do music videos like the 00s anymore.

3. This is Halloween – Nightmare Before Christmas

It’s just not Halloween without a Tim Burton touch, so pump the speakers up for this creepy yet cute Nightmare Before Christmas classic. All hail The Pumpkin King.

4. I Put A Spell On You – Screamin Jay Hawkins

The screaming, the theatrics, and the creepy props for the performance – this is a Halloween masterpiece.

5. Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr.

Of course this one’s going in the list.

6. Kate Bush – Hounds of Love

This tune kicks off with a sampled line from British actor Maurice Denham, who yells, “It’s in the trees, it’s coming!” – a line comes from a 1957 British horror film, Night of the Demon, about a demon that appears from the woods, hell-bent on spreading some evil. The movie is also a favourite of Kate Bush and she sings the line again in the song.

7. Heads Will Roll – Yeah Yeah Yeahs

A super dance-y song that alludes to getting your head chopped off. Yup, this going to get a head start on the Halloween party playlist.

8. Psycho Killer – Talking Heads

When the Talking Heads started out, the waif-like, lead member David Byrne was often compared to Norman Bates, the psycho killer from Alfred Hitchcock’s… Psycho. That description came especially easy for critics once Byrne wrote this unhinged funk ballad inspired by knife-wielding Norman. He pulled it off well – just look at his eyes in this performance.

9. Oxford Comma – Vampire Weekend

For incorporating ‘Vampire’ in their band name, we’re giving them a free pass. Besides, incorrectly used punctuation is hell in itself.
