Love Locked

Let’s be honest – Valentine’s Day dinner is an expensive affair. Thinking of proposing? At just $9,999, you get to dine on The Stamford’s helipad (pictured above) on a 12 courser, get your flowers bought (all 99 of them), and even get those diamonds shined (there’s a jewellery set with a diamond necklace, earrings, and bracelet worth $5300). You even have a one-night stay in the hotel and a couple spa treatment!
But since we don’t all have 10 grand to lavish on the big day, here are our favourite (and more affordable) deals in Singapore.
Joel Robuchon
We know – the celeb chef restaurant thing isn’t always executed well, but Joel Robuchon at Resorts World Sentosa is a personal fave of ours. On the menu: a nine-course set menu that includes pan-fried scallop with fregolas on a coral emulsion, roasted turbot and chestnut casserole with yellow wine jus, roasted foie gras with port, and cheese macaronis black pepper crystalline. Dessert is a stunner: apple pie reversed served with sweet caramel ice cream on a spicy crumble. Pricey, but worth the splurge. Menu De La Saint Valentin dinner, $380++ per person, available 14 Feb 2013 only. Call 6577 7888 for reservations.

Few things impress like stunning views at the Equinox. Pair that with a 7-course set menu of European classics like the luxurious Platter Fruit De Mer Royale that comprises a whole lobster, oysters, clams, Tiger Prawns, Sri Lankan Crabs, Green Lip Mussels, Razor Clams, Caviar, Tuna, and Salmon Sashimi and we are sold! Best of all – you don’t even have to jostle with the 14 Feb crowd to enjoy this one! Available from 13-16 Feb 2013, $215++ per person include of a glass of bubbly and an exclusive V Day giveaway. Enjoy a six course meal at Caffe B where strawberries and wine take centrestage on the menu. There’s Risotto with Strawberries Simmered in Champagne, Oysters with Sake and Raspberries, and Pancakes with Raspberries to end. Choice of mains include cod, duck breast, or vegetable tempura. $230++ per couple, 6-11pm on 14 Feb 2013. Call 6887 3311 for reservations.

Casa Verde
If upscale isn’t your thing but you believe that in the language of love, head to the casual Casa Verde for unpretentious Italian fare. We love that their featured aphrodisiac isn’t common on other Valentine’s Day menus – lovebirds, meet the humble (and healthy) fig. Work your way through the prixe fixe menu with Italian recipes like salad in fig vignetto served with fresh fig, parma ham, and bufala. Call 6467 7326 for reservations.</em.
