Founder of Madly Gems

From young, I was always singing into a microphone or nosing inside my mother’s jewellery box. I’m so thankful to have both my loves as my career.
Tell us your story, how did you get here?
From young, I was always singing into a microphone or nosing inside my mother’s jewellery box. I’m so thankful to have both my loves as my career. Right now, I’m fully devoted to Madly, Singapore’s leading bespoke jeweller and coloured gemstone specialist.
What impact have you made in Singapore?
I don’t think “impact” is measured in contributions. I believe it’s measured in how you touch individual lives and pass on the love you’ve received. In the last decade, I’m proud to have been told that tuning in to Kiss92 on their morning drive has brightened someone’s day, and that my cheeky “irreverence” has inspired women and girls to stand up for what they believe in. To keep it real and stay true to who they are! That kind of impact, to me, is immeasurable.
What does 2022 look like for you?
2022 is and has been an extremely exciting year because we’re finally opening our Madly experiential centre at Ann Siang! It’s been months in the making and I can’t wait to unveil it.
Not only will it make the Madly bespoke jewellery experience even more immersive and unlike any other jeweller in the world, but I do believe it will influence how we view coloured gemstones, leading to a greater appreciation of Mother Nature, and of the artistry that goes into every jewel that ends up on your finger.
What do you love most about Singapore?
In my younger days, I was always looking for opportunities to “escape” Singapore but I’ve grown to love this sunny little island. As a mother to two daughters, I appreciate how safe it is, and the endless opportunities it brings. In Singapore, if you dare to dream and put in the effort, with the right team, your dreams may just come true.
What’s the one thing you’d wear for the rest of your life?
Hmmm… that’s a hard one! I love variety and I plan to live a long life, but one thing I’ll never tire of wearing is the emerald ring that my daughter Libby lovingly designed for me. Or until the next jewel catches my eye!
Who is your Local Legend, and why?
The women I meet at Madly are the most strong, brave and loving women. I’m always humbled. They’re everyday amazing women who are all legends in their own right.
In particular, hats off to fellow #WomanWhoWearsMADLY, Norfasarie. I simply don’t know how she does it all! She’s an established entrepreneur and owner of her own spa, Moza Aesthetics, a supportive wife, and a dedicated mum to four kids who are all so well brought up. Hats off and much love to her.
