Review: Semara Luxury Villa Resort
At times on this assignment we forgot who we were. We thought we were rockstars, or Aussie darling Jennifer Hawkins – who by the way reserved the entire resort for her wedding to Jake Wall last year. But this place is not reserved for the likes of Jen. It is perfectly accessible to everyone and we all have the chance to feel like rockstars.
Perched on the cliff tops of Bali’s West Coast, Semara Luxury Villa Resort literally trips out over the Indian Ocean. And there is a unique energy that comes with being on the edge of the earth and bearing witness to a rhythmic wave set that pounds a break about 20 metres off shore.
There is joy and life force in this simple act of nature when you live in the city and salty negative ions are about as hard to come by as a starry night.
This is the backdrop that lures 130 couples a year to wed in the various picture- perfect bales and gardens of seven stunning and individually styled villas. Each villa has five bedrooms and will accommodate ten adults. Some of the bedrooms are interconnecting, have roll- away beds and extra bedding can be arranged for children. Each villa has one substantial master bedroom suite and four equivalent-sized bedrooms, all with en-suite and outdoor garden showers.
The villas are quite extraordinary. They each have a different owner and this is obvious in the character and décor. We stayed in Pawana, which had such perfect rolling carpet grass that even a forty-something with questionable flexibility could not resist a cartwheel or so. The grass surrounds quite possibly the most infinite infinity edge pool we have ever seen which just begged for you to look out across the ocean for hours on end which is, after all, what holidays are about.
You can dine in the villa, at Finn’s Beach Club or at the Selatan Restaurant, in-house at the main pavilion, which has a very fabulous wine list and is open 9am to 9pm. Order room service from your villa or have a chef come in to prepare a barbecue.
The villa comes with a Butler who can be at your service from 8 hours daily. As we’ve come to expect in Bali, the staff cannot do enough to help. They are friendly, intuitive and accommodating.
Probably the most impressive thing about Semara Uluwatu, which is a hallmark of customer service no matter where you are in the world, is the communication that goes on under your radar. Arriving at Finn’s Beach Club, you’ll find the staff at the bottom of the incline already know your name, have probably reserved you a sun bed, a table and started a tab under your villa name. More about Finn’s later.
We found it incredibly hard to find fault with our stay at Semara Villas.
When all is said and done, your driver will drop you back at the newly renovated airport where you will run the gauntlet of duty free designer product, which will seem like nothing compared to the eye candy of the past days.
Stay between April 1 and June 7
