ABA Productions and Shakespeare’s Globe brings classic theatre to the stage in September
Three of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice and The Taming of the Shrew, will be hitting the stages in Hong Kong from 25-30 September, thanks to a collaboration between ABA Productions and Shakespeare’s Globe. Whether you’re a Shakespeare aficionado or new to the plays of The Bard, these performances will wow audiences across five nights.
What plays are showing?
Showing on 25, 27 and 29 September, Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare’s most well-known Comedies and is filled with a cast of unforgettable characters. Taking place in the household of Countess Olivia, expect love, loss and even a little cross-dressing in this hilarious classic.
On 26 and 30 September, audiences will be wowed by popular favourite, The Merchant of Venice. At the very base of this play is money and greed, with moneylender Shylock embodying all that is wrong in the world. Will Bassanio win the hand of the fair maiden Portia or will Shylock have his pound of flesh?
If you’ve seen the 90s classic 10 Things I Hate About You, then you know the premise for The Taming of the Shrew, playing on 30 September. As wealthy sisters Kate and Bianca are due to be married off in Padua, who will take the ungovernable Kate to the altar? This comedy is known as one of theatre’s great screwball double-acts, thanks to a series of double crosses and characters trying to outwit each other.
Get involved and vote for the play you want to see
In a world first, on 28 and 29 September, audiences will be given the chance to vote for which play they want to see: Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice or The Taming of the Shrew. Keeping with tradition, Audience Choice Performances will add an element of unpredictability to your viewing pleasure, with a company of eight actors performing whatever the majority decides.
