Nassim Secci found her happy place when she left her corporate law career and started her own home organisation business
We love entrepreneurs and small business owners at Honeycombers, which is why we’ve created Launchpad, a comprehensive digital networking platform (with IRL benefits, too) that encourages connection, business support and community. It is a privilege and pleasure to learn from so many talented and inspiring folks, so we’ve decided to share the love by interviewing some of the lovely Launchpad members. Looking for inspiration? Check out how Nassim Secci, founder of The Happy Space Company, gets it done like a boss.
How I get it done: Nassim Secci
How and why did you decide to launch your business?
Before I became a home organiser, I was a lawyer for the corporate world. I spent my entire life preparing for a prestigious career that I loved and that challenged me. But, as much as the high-level work excited me, I felt like a gerbil on a wheel and I realised my values were no longer aligned with what I was doing, especially after I became a mother. I decided to leave my decade-long career, without a new job lined up and without a clue as to what came next. It was terrifying, but once it was done, it was liberating.
On day one of my retirement (as I called it), I started decluttering and organising my home—something I always loved but never had time for. Now I had the time, and when I let go of a career that no longer served me, I purged and decluttered my life mentally and emotionally. Now, it was time to do it for my physical space. The decluttering was a spiritually cleansing experience, and I felt lighter, clearer, and happier and I realised this is what I wanted to help others do. The Happy Space Company is not just about decluttering or organising. It’s about reclaiming your space, your time, and living your values.
What’s the secret to your success?
Any success I have had in my life has been because of grit and resilience—never ever giving up. I often jump first and think later, and this has served me well so far! And, of course, believing in yourself. If you don’t, no one will! Lastly, I believe in giving; having that mindset, in my opinion, only brings more abundance to your life.
What does the Launchpad community mean to you?
I love connecting with like-minded, driven entrepreneurs. Having a growth mindset is key, and I believe there is so much to learn from everyone, from seasoned entrepreneurs to enthusiastic newbies. Having a supportive network is critical and Launchpad is a great way to expand that network.
How I get it done: Lightning round
On a typical morning: I have two young kids, so my mornings are focused on being present with them before everyone goes their separate ways. I have breakfast with the kids and help them get ready for the day. It helps me feel grounded to connect with them in the mornings, even if it’s only for five minutes some days. My husband takes our daughter to school and once they are out the door, I get ready and head out for the day, too.
On dealing with self-doubt and criticism: For me, the key to dealing with self-doubt and criticism is to let go of perfectionism. When I was a corporate lawyer the expectations were sky high and I always put a ton of pressure on myself. With this massive career shift has also come a mindset shift: perfection doesn’t exist!
On staying motivated and energised: For me, motivation and energy come from an internal source. Knowing who I am, what my values are, and what I want helps me tap into work that I am passionate and excited about on a deeper level. Once you are operating from a place of true desire, and your values are aligned with your work, I believe that’s when the magic happens and things just flow. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t bumps along the way—that is a part of the journey—but things flow for the most part. And that is where you find that motivation and energy are plentiful.
