Realising a need for digital marketing services for small-medium businesses in Hong Kong, Anne Suaverdez founded Wresonate Media in the midst of the pandemic.
We love entrepreneurs and small business owners at Honeycombers, which is why we’ve created Launchpad, a comprehensive digital networking platform (with IRL benefits, too) that encourages connection, business support, and community. It is a privilege and pleasure to learn from so many talented and inspiring folks, so we’ve decided to share the love by interviewing some of the lovely Launchpad members. Looking for inspiration? Check out how Anne Suaverdez, Founder of Wresonate Media, gets it done!
How I get it done: Anne Suaverdez
What is your backstory and why did you decide to launch your business?
My journey started in 2011 when I founded an e-commerce business. By collaborating with celebrities, influencers, and bloggers, my brand gained significant traction within a year and I was able to propel its growth. Despite this success, I remained in my full-time role, opting not to transition to be an entrepreneur at the time. Instead, I focused on advancing my knowledge in business and marketing while working in the corporate world.
When Covid-19 hit and smaller, local businesses began to rise, I identified a need for digital marketing services that catered to small-medium entrepreneurs who lacked the time and resources to manage their marketing strategy. I realised that I could leverage my years of experience to make a significant impact on their businesses. As a result, in August 2021, I launched Wresonate Media, a digital agency dedicated to partnering with entrepreneurs to scale their digital marketing efforts and support their business growth.
What has been your biggest challenge so far and how did you overcome it?
Like any other business owner, you treat your business as if it’s your baby. You want to be involved in everything that has to do with it, even if your hands are already full. Starting solo, I’ve often found it hard to balance my time between working in and on the business. I realised I needed to build a team who could support me, and whom I could trust, as the agency grew.
How do you stay motivated and energised?
There’s no doubt that I get depleted of energy and drive sometimes. Setting up my own business has been exciting yet equally challenging. But, I find that acknowledging my occasional weariness is crucial in allowing me to go back to my goals, take a break, and celebrate my wins. I also allocate time to work out and relax with my family and friends.
How do you deal with self-doubt or criticism?
Whenever my inner self seems to discredit or invalidate me, I always go back to my “whys”. I pause and take a moment to remember why I started my business in the first place. I also learned how important it is to document my accomplishments, because it serves as a reminder that I present to myself whenever self-doubt creeps in.
And one of the things I picked up from my client, who is an author and a coach, is that you can turn that negative self-talk into positive ones. For example, if I’m criticising myself because of a perceived lack of knowledge or skills, I take action to learn and grow in that area. If there’s something I can control, I take steps to improve and make changes.
How I get it done with Anne Suaverdez: Rapid fire
Favourite place(s) to work? I love working at quiet cafes.
Favourite business tool or can you share a work “mantra” that you use? My favourite mantra is something I learned from my previous boss: Either I find a way, or I will make one.
One thing you can keep talking about for hours? Digital marketing strategies and how they can support overall business and marketing goals.
Your go-to self-care activity? I love going for long, warm baths, reading, and massages!
One piece of advice to your younger self? Build the life you’ve always wanted by trusting yourself and your capabilities.
