Fair Squared: What makes their condoms vegan?
Fair Squared is actually the first international condom brand to use only fair trade rubber! Using natural rubber latex from their plantation in New Ambadi in South India, Fair Squared pays a Fairtrade premium to improve the working conditions of the plantation workers and make sure that the condoms are FSC certified and vegan.
Given the high quality of the latex used, stabilisers like casein (milk protein) are omitted; while a GMO-free corn starch is incorporated to ensure the condoms don’t stick together after production. To make things better for us and the earth, the condoms also don’t contain harmful chemicals like spermicidals, benzocaine and nonoxynol.
Types of condoms available
Made in Germany, Fair Squared includes four kinds of condoms to cater to different users: Original, Ultra-thin, Sensitive Dry and XL. The lubricant used is based on silicone oil/dimethicone (INCI denomination), except for the Sensitive Dry condoms which are non-lubricated so customers with sensitive skin can choose their preferable water-soluble lubricant on their own.
Thoughts after trying Fair Squared
I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical in the beginning to hear about vegan condoms (even though I’ve been a vegan for over half a decade). Are they safe? Isn’t it risky to try something different? However, after being tried and tested by the team, I can ensure that they live up to their reputation – high-quality while remaining environmentally-friendly. Maybe it’s time to consider switching?
