Change is a good thing. That's why we're so excited to fill you in on our expanded editorial content. Still the same Honeycombers, but even better.
When I started Honeycombers 12 years ago in Singapore, I had no idea that I was birthing a media company that would soon span three different countries and reach over 1 million readers every month. Back then, the digital landscape was pretty barren, and my hope was simply to fill people in on all the cool things happening in Singapore every week. But whoa has the world changed!? (And maybe I have too?) Since then, we’ve seen the alarming stats around the global environmental crisis, the rise of social media giants like Facebook, not to mention COVID, a Trump presidency, and huge international movements to champion equality and diversity.
So we’ve expanded our editorial content
Because of all of these changes, I’ve felt for a while that Honeycombers should expand its offering and open up a dialogue around issues that aren’t always talked about in the regions we operate in. Recently, we’ve made the decision to cover more topics that we feel are important for the new world that we’re all living in. So now when you read the site, you’ll see more about social issues, personal opinion pieces, LGBTQ+ content, mental health, sexual wellbeing and interviews with local people doing great things.
Don’t worry. We’ll still always be THE place to go to know what’s happening around town and where the hottest new bars and restaurants are, but we want to challenge your thinking, broaden your horizons and engage in some of the critical social and environmental conversations. I believe independent media is critical to the survival and health of our planet and society, and we need to play our part.
Haven’t seen our new content? Here are a few of my fave pieces so far:
- Is Hong Kong racist?
- We’re over these body-shaming ads
- How to help a friend with depression
- Coming out to Asian parents
- Growing up motherless
- Living with Anxiety Disorder
We hope you’ll love reading this new content as much as we love creating it for you.
Cheers,
Chris & the Honeycombers team
