Take the whole family along to the second edition of DesignInspire, and see origami installations, a giant T-Rex and even a robot boxing competition!
Art and design lovers! It’s time to get excited, as DesignInspire returns to Hong Kong for its second edition from 6-8 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 220 exhibitors from across the globe will bring over 620 designs and projects to Hong Kong, showcasing the latest design concepts and innovations, and best of all, it’s free for everyone to attend and get inspired!
Get ready to be inspired at DesignInspire
This year’s partner city for the event is Melbourne, Australia, and DesignInspire will showcase a selection of incredible works from the Victorian state that examine how design interacts with Play, Making, Wellbeing, Identity and Learning. Tech and history fans will not want to miss the five-metre-long T-Rex dinosaur that will be clawing its way to HKTDC courtesy of Melbourne animatronics firm Creature Technology Co.
Hundreds of local design projects and installations will also be on show at the expo, with highlights including 10 miniature models featuring Hong Kong’s unique cityscape and array of festivals, such as: Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance and the Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree. A collection of origami paper art works, including a 50-centimetre-long dragon folded from a single piece of paper, and live graffiti performances are also not to be missed.
And if interactive events are your thing, then keep an eye out for the design master talks, workshops and even a Robot Boxing League competition at DesignInspire in 2018.

RetroInnovations exhibition at Harbour City
DesignInspire highlights the fact that Hong Kong is a place that’s brimming with wonderful creatives and artists, and as a prelude to the event, the RetroInnovations exhibition organised by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) showcases 19 young design talents from across the region.
Running from 27 November-3 December at Gallery by the Harbour at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui, RetroInnovations features works from designers belonging to a range of different disciplines, including architecture, interior design, product design and fashion/accessories design. Each designer was invited to create a series of contemporary installations that pay tribute to and reinterpret the city’s culture and traditional craftsmanship.
Guests at RetroInnovations will see works that pay homage to the beautifully simple acts of tea-drinking and bird-walking, portrayed through mediums including ironwork, ceramics and rattan weaving. Best of all, art & culture lovers are encouraged to interact with the installations themselves and experience how creativity improves wellbeing and contributes to a happier city (we love this!)
The free admission project is supported by the Design Council of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Interior Design Association and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, and is not to be missed.
