Embracing the philosophy ‘Life is Chai’, Chaiwala hopes to bring joy and creativity to the neighbourhood with its modern Indian cuisine
Food lovers are probably aware that there’s no shortage of diverse dining options in Hong Kong, whether it be Mexican joints or Italian restaurants. And good news is that the creative brains behind Pirata Group (including restaurants like PICI and Tokyolima) have announced the opening of Chaiwala – a modern Indian kitchen and bar in Central – and we’re excited to see what it’s all about.
What can you expect from Chaiwala?
Embracing the idea of ‘Life is Chai’, Chaiwala aims to offer a dynamic space for lively nights outs with delicious Indian cuisine. To be situated behind British salon Hugger Mugger, the restaurant is divided into three distinct spaces – the Chai Bar, Kitchen and Dining Room. As explained by culinary director Balaji (Bala) Balachander, an alumnus of London’s famed Benares restaurant, the menu consists of sharable sized dishes that encompass flavours from Kerala to Kashmir, so guests can a true taste of modern Indian cuisine in a sophisticated and vibrant setting.
The menu also offers a comprehensive array of drinks, including Indian-inspired cocktails that are infused with ginger, cloves and Indian bay leaves, old and new world wines that have been selected to complement the Indian menu, as well as signature Indian beverages like lassi and chai tea latte.
Excited to try out tasty modern Indian dishes with your friends? Open for dinner and drinks, Chaiwala will be taking reservations from 7 August onwards.
