The best restaurants in Berawa
1. SHUN Omakase Counter
Intimate Japanese omakase counter serving seasonal multi-course degustations with premium produce.

Bringing the art of Japanese omakase to Berawa, SHUN Omakase Counter celebrates the seasonality and creativity of Japanese cuisine through a 13- to 18-course degustation menu. This intimate 11-seater restaurant seamlessly blends time-honoured traditions with modern gastronomy, crafting an exclusive dinner experience unlike anything else around. As you settle into your sought-after spot at the counter, the essence of SHUN (which means “I leave it up to you”) becomes evidently clear.
Under the expert guidance of Chef Mark Jeremie Oliver, the chefs take the reins, serving the finest seasonal ingredients and premium Japanese delicacies: think fresh sashimi, Miyasaki Wagyu beef and buttery-smooth uni. All of this is topped off by a stellar selection of signature cocktails, each one just as theatrical as the dinner itself.
Must-try dishes: Fresh sashimi, Miyasaki Wagyu beef

2. Mosto
Indonesia’s first natural wine bar offering French-Aussie neo-bistro plates and low-intervention wines.

The brainchild of Bali’s hospitality superstar, Mexicola Group (the team behind Da Maria, Luigi’s and Motel Mexicola), Mosto is a French and Aussie-style neo-bistro with casual vibes and a cool, forward-thinking food menu. You won’t find any regular dishes here, instead you can graze on cold roast beef with preserved truffle and whipped macadamia, or mixed leaves and sunflower cress with kombucha vinaigrette. And since Mosto is Indonesia’s very first natural wine bar, I never skipped on one (or more…) of their 70 different low-intervention wines – and you shouldn’t either!
Psst – here’s my full review from my recent dinner at Mosto.
Must-try dishes: Tagliolini Arrabbiata, Koji-Marinated Chicken Schnitzel, Sticky Toffee Pudding

3. Riviera Bistro
Contemporary French-Mediterranean dining with fresh seafood, fine wines and relaxed Riviera vibes.

From the French Riviera to boho Berawa, Riviera Bistro dishes up contemporary French and Mediterranean cuisine, fresh-from-the-net seafood and a premium selection of wine. Taste the ocean with the seafood dishes served au naturale, from the tuna tartare to the scallop crudo. And a trip to the French Riviera wouldn’t be complete without a mountain of burrata, so I always save some space to munch on the 100-gram serving with pickled capsicum, alongside a hearty bowl of Provence seafood soup.
Must-try dishes: Burrata Cheese, Provence Seafood Soup, Black Angus Picanha

4. Sababa
Share-style Middle Eastern restaurant serving Levantine flavours, mezze plates and spice-led cocktails.

An awesome little eatery serving Middle Eastern cuisine, Sababa in Berawa is where we go to order everything on the menu to share with friends. Dished up in warm and cosy East Mediterranean interiors, you’ll get to graze on the region’s famous spices, packed nicely into some delicious and authentic dishes. Think classic kefta, falafels and shakshuka, to Cala ganoush (grilled calamari on creamy baba ganoush) and Levantine grilled meats. And since sharing is the name of the game, each dish is served family-style (or on grazing mezze plates), best paired with the list of yummy desserts and cocktails, all given a Middle Eastern twist. It’s the perfect pick for a romantic date night, or a cocktail-fuelled feast with friends.

5. One Eyed Jack
Modern Japanese izakaya and sake bar delivering refined small plates in a moody yet casual setting.

With an ex-Nobu chef helming the kitchen, you know you’re on to a winner here! One Eyed Jack is a trendy Japanese restaurant with a playful take on an Izakaya and sake bar. The menu is the perfect mix of traditional and modern fare, served up in a stylish, intimate setting. Kick off with a Japanese whisky cocktail as you feast on Jack’s Umami Bites (sea urchin, salmon roe and unagi, wrapped in sushi rice and nori seaweed) and finish off with a sweet treat. This is one restaurant I’d happily fight Canggu traffic to get to.

6. Ghost Restaurant & Record Bar
Retro-cool dinner spot pairing bold modern cuisine with craft cocktails and vinyl-fuelled ambience.

A vibey spot that blends vintage vinyl charm with a menu that’s all about bold flavours and top-tier cocktails, Ghost Restaurant & Record Bar is a cool kid in Canggu’s restaurant scene. The menu ranges from Wagyu beef tartare, to baked ocean trout and jerk pork chop. Just as impressive is the list of craft cocktails, namely their twist on my favourite, classic Negroni. I love the dimly lit, retro-cool space – it’s quickly becoming my go-to for a laid-back dinner or a late-night drink.

7. Lusa By/Suka
All-day Berawa bistro turning into an elegant dinner restaurant with wood-grilled meats and cocktails.

When I first discovered Lusa By/Suka, I knew it would be a hit. This all-day restaurant in Berawa is from the same people who gave us Suka Espresso, Muda By/Suka and Nusa By/Suka. And just like its sister venues, this one ticks all the boxes. Think good vibes, incredible flavours, and a killer menu.
Mornings here call for Aussie-inspired brunch plates, but I also swing by in the evenings, when it transforms into an elegant bistro. The wood-grilled prawns are the absolute standout, slathered in saffron butter. The crispy pork belly is also worth shouting about, as is the Black Angus Picanha, drizzled in a red wine jus. And don’t even get us started on the cocktails and desserts…

8. TYGR Berawa
Sushi bar specialising in still-warm hand rolls, fresh seafood and casual late-night dining.

When it comes to sushi, TYGR is top of the game. From classic salmon and tuna rolls to hand rolls and specialty rolls, you name it, the talented chefs do it… right in front of your eyes! You can’t go wrong with any of the fresh seafood rolls or the veggie-friendly jackfruit katsu roll – all wrapped in warm sushi rice and shatteringly crispy nori. Want to spice it up? I’d go with the Krispy Tygr with spicy tuna, avocado and cucumber, sprinkled with sweet fried onion and truffle ponzu. And it goes without saying, a sake or ice-cold Sapporo tops it all off.
Must-try dishes: Krispy Tygr, Fireball, Jungle Roll

11. Bokashi
Japanese-inspired farm-to-table café and tea house focused on sustainability, seasonal menus and premium matcha.

A healthy grocery store, Japanese-inspired restaurant and a tea house with sustainability at its core, Bokashi is a humble, home-style foodie destination that sources all of its seasonal ingredients from organic farms. Japanese influences play a big role here, not only in the wooden interiors and Kevala ceramics in every corner, but in each dish too. The menu is ever-changing to match the season’s harvest, meaning your Kaiseki-style breakfast bento or shared izakaya-style plates may have different ingredients from time to time. I just love the earthy interiors as a reflection of the farmhouse-style menu – topped off by an entire menu of single-origin teas and matcha.
