With its panoramic ocean views, a course-led Mediterranean menu and a Josper grill worth the drive south – Oliverra's Sunday brunch in Uluwatu is the real deal.
A good Sunday in Bali needs three things: good food, good drinks, and a view worth lingering over. So when I heard that there’s a new Sunday brunch in Bali that offers all of that and more, I simply had to try it. Enter: Oliverra – the signature clifftop Mediterranean restaurant at Umana Bali in Ungasan.
To find this show-stopping destination, simply hop in a buggy from Umana Bali’s hotel lobby, and you’ll find yourself in a gorgeous air-conditioned dining room, with high ceilings and glass walls that frame Melasti Beach and the turquoise waters below. With such a relaxed setting and panoramic ocean views all around, I felt like I’d been transported to the Amalfi coast! But it turns out, that was just the beginning…
This brand new Sunday brunch menu is created by Chef Angga Suarthama. And make no mistake: this isn’t your regular avocado-on-toast kind of brunch. Instead, Oliverra’s Sunday brunch is a course-led Mediterranean menu, featuring everything from artisanal starters and pasta dishes to Josper-grilled seafood and meats, cheeses, and theatrical desserts. And the best bit is, you can order as many dishes as you want…
If you’re looking for one of the best brunches in Uluwatu right now, here’s what to expect.

The starters: From homemade bread to delicate pasta

Sunday brunch at Oliverra begins the way Mediterranean meals do: with homemade bread and something to get your appetite going. You can choose from different kinds of bread before a tray of amuse-bouche makes its way to the table. Then comes the cold seafood platter, and this is where things really step up. Fresh oysters, river prawns and Papuan crab are served alongside delicate bites like coconut-cured seabream and yellowfin tuna. It’s vibrant, fresh and packed with flavour, and sets the tone for this coastal brunch.
For something heartier, the cage-free egg dishes are anything but ordinary. I went straight for the fluffy scrambled eggs topped with lobster chunks. But the egg custard with parmesan cream got the thumbs up from our entire table – even from my friend who’s not into eggs! The antipasto selection keeps things light yet flavourful – from tuna tartare and hamachi crudo, to the vegetarian watermelon and halloumi salad.
Before I knew it, it was time for pasta and risotto. While the seafood risotto came highly recommended, I couldn’t say no to the ravioli with the most fragrant onion consommé. It was indulgent yet light, and you can’t help but admire the thinly-rolled silky pasta, the amount of filling that’s just right, and perfectly cooked al dente.
The heart of Oliverra: The Josper-grilled mains

If you still have room (I hope you do!), the Josper grill is where Oliverra truly shines. Cooked over a local coffee wood fire, these dishes bring a smoky depth and a touch of sweetness that perfectly balance the lighter starters. The dry-aged fish was definitely intriguing, but my favourite from the sea was the grilled octopus – tender, slightly charred and paired with smoked eggplant and a vibrant beetroot foam.
Meat lovers, you’re in for a treat too. The Wagyu striploin was melt-in-your-mouth good, but the real surprise? The pork tenderloin, which isn’t my usual choice, but the kitchen did a fantastic job. They skilfully kept the meat moist and the spices balanced. The smooth celeriac purée and crispy fried Jerusalem artichoke complemented the pork nicely. Each dish is refined but not overcomplicated – letting quality ingredients and fire do the talking.
Desserts worth saving space for

Just when you think you’re done, the cheese and dessert trolley arrives at your table. The cheese course covers hard and soft local varieties, with crackers, jams, chutneys, nuts and fruit on the side to balance out the creaminess. Next came the tray of miniature cakes, brownies, cookies and tarts. If I had to pick only one dessert, it’s the coconut parfait: fresh coconut slivers, ice cream and kaffir lime zest, all plated right at the table.
