Desa Potato Head invites you to fully immerse in Bali’s wellness lineage through Merasa Origins. Here’s everything you need to know about this three-part retreat series.
Looking for a truly immersive wellness retreat in Bali in 2026? Mark your calendar for Merasa Origins at Desa Potato Head Bali. “Merasa” means “to feel” in Bahasa Indonesia, which perfectly sums up what this wellness retreat is all about. This newly launched three-part series goes beyond yoga and breathwork. It offers a deeper, more intentional journey into the cultural roots of Balinese wellbeing.
Spanning India, Java and Bali, the programme invites you to feel wellness first, and understand it second. Because Bali’s wellness rituals aren’t just practices – they’re a way of life shaped by centuries of tradition and ancestral wisdom.

Merasa Origins 2026 – All you need to know

What is Merasa Origins?
Merasa Origins is a three-part immersive wellness series designed to explore the evolution of Balinese wellbeing. It consists of three separate four-day retreats, each delving into a different culture that has influenced Bali’s wellness traditions. The journey began with India in June 2026 (I’ve got the sneak peek below). Then, it continues with Java in September 2026, and concludes with Bali in November 2026. Each retreat is guided by a wellness practitioner from the respective region.
What can I expect from Merasa Origins?
Each retreat lasts four days, with a thoughtful flow between movement and stillness. Mornings begin with gentle movement, breathwork and meditation, followed by knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops, alongside time for rest and self-reflection. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Potato Head’s multiple dining outlets are included, ensuring your body receives the nourishment it needs throughout the experience.
Why I’m looking forward to joining Merasa Origins
The concept behind this wellness programme feels unlike anything I’ve come across in Bali. Many wellness retreats skim the surface, offering the “what” but not the “why”. Merasa Origins feels like the opposite. It’s about tracing the roots of these practices and understanding how they’ve travelled, adapted, and become part of everyday life in Bali.

Earlier this year, I joined Merasa Origins: India
The first chapter: “India: Beginning with Balance”. Led by Reema Data (Founder of The Yogi’s Way), I got to learn about the foundations of yoga and the Vedic wellbeing. Reema introduced classical yoga philosophy combined with lineage-based teachings that have been passed down from her ancestors. The result? I left understanding more about the Indian origins of Bali’s wellness scene, some new friends, and a greater appreciation of yoga and mindfulness.
Next up, Merasa Origins: Java
The second chapter shifts focus to Java, led by Pak Sugeng (a Javanese spiritual practitioner and Tantric priest) and Serj Hunt (a spiritual anthropologist). You will explore Javanese traditions and philosophies, and their integration with Buddhist teachings and the local belief systems. This series offers insight into how spiritual practices evolved as they moved across cultures, creating a distinct Javanese approach to wellbeing.
Here’s how each day looks like:
- Morning activation through movement and/or meditation
- Knowledge-sharing session
- Afternoon workshops
- Meals and rest time between sessions
Save the date: 10 to 13 September 2026
Later this year: Bali
The final chapter brings the journey back to Bali. This immersion explores how centuries of influence from India and Java have shaped what we now recognise as Bali’s wellness rituals. Pak Sedana (a Balinese healer and priest) will guide you through ancient Balinese teachings and how they have become fully integrated into modern, everyday life.
