Welcome to the award-winning Fivelements Retreat Bali, with its holistic wellness programmes centred around nature, tradition and connection.
Looking for a full mind-and-body reset? You’ve come to the right place. Bali’s wellness scene is world-famous, and it goes far beyond simple massages and yoga classes. Think ancient Balinese rituals, plant-forward dining, and immersive healing experiences. And there’s one destination in particular that always tops our list. That’s Fivelements Retreat Bali.
Set along the river on the outskirts of Ubud, this eco-friendly retreat is an immersive wellness destination, with multi-day programmes that guide you through Balinese culture, healing and nature. You can check-in to the bamboo villas for a suite-only stay, or dive into one of five wellness programmes, all designed to move at your own pace. It’s this personalised approach that has earned Fivelements over 90 global awards for its wellness and sustainability efforts. And I can totally understand why.
But what truly sets Fivelements apart is how it weaves traditional Balinese healing into modern wellness. Every stay is grounded in the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana – the harmonious connection between people, nature and the divine. Through holistic therapies, Fivelements honours this balance… And there’s nowhere else quite like it in Bali.

Deep renewal & holistic healing: Fivelements’ wellness retreat programmes

One of the things I love about Fivelements is that it isn’t just an Ubud hotel with a spa. It’s a fully immersive wellness destination. The retreat offers curated wellness programmes designed for self-renewal, whether you need physical healing, mental clarity or simply a sense of alignment.
There are five wellness retreat programmes to choose from, each rooted in ancient healing traditions and generational wisdom. Whichever you choose, you’ll experience traditional Balinese rituals (like the Melukat water purification ceremony, or the Agni Hotra fire blessing to cleanse you of any unwanted aspects in your life), nourishing meals, and mindful practices like yoga and meditation.
But what really stands out is the personalised, holistic approach. Rather than following a rigid retreat schedule, programmes are tailored to your own individual needs. You get to move at your own pace while receiving guidance from healers and wellness experts. You can even decide how long you want the programme to be, whether it’s three or 14 nights. It means you can really unplug from the outside world and reconnect with yourself in a more meaningful way.
Inside the award-winning Healing & Wellness Village

So much more than just a spa, the Healing & Wellness Village at Fivelements Retreat is a peaceful wellness sanctuary by the river, wrapped in nature and therapeutic treatments. It was named a “Top Spa Destination in the World” by Condé Nast Traveller in 2025, and I can see why. It’s like a bamboo village, home to holistic treatments designed to support physical, emotional and energetic wellbeing.
As soon as I walked into my private healing suite, all I could hear was the flowing Ayung River. It was simply magical. I chose the Balinese Boreh Ritual. Boreh is a traditional blend of sacred herbs, spices and rice powder, so this treatment draws on the healing powers of native botanicals. It began with a full body massage, followed by a Boreh scrub to exfoliate and purify my skin. It ended with an aromatherapeutic flower bath as I sipped on a healing tea. I’m pretty sure I floated out of that treatment suite…
Beyond the suites, the village includes bamboo yoga shalas, a dedicated hydrotherapy pool and sacred spaces used for meditation and traditional fire ceremonies.
Plant-forward nourishment at Sakti Dining Room

Dining at Fivelements Retreat’s Sakti Dining Room is a treat in itself – starting with the visual. This world-famous open-air restaurant was designed in the shape of a banana leaf, which is commonly used in Balinese cooking and dining. The roof itself is made of local bamboo, coconut tree and thatch – a nod to their commitment to sustainability and honouring Balinese culture.
Overlooking lotus ponds and showcasing a plant-forward menu that supports vitality and gut health – I quickly realised that wellness at Fivelements extends far beyond rituals and treatments.
I started with the Kale Avocado Tartare – light and fresh, with a touch of sweetness from pineapple. I was in the mood for something comforting, so I warmed up with the smoked tempeh curry laksa. And to finish, a passion fruit sorbet drizzled with honey from the retreat’s own stingless bee hives. In fact, most of the ingredients are seasonally harvested from their own organic Garden of Peace, so you know exactly what goes into each dish.
Despite its plant-forward ethos, the food never felt restrictive – even for me, as an omnivore. For those who prefer, there’s locally sourced fresh fish and free-range eggs on the menu, as optional animal protein additions. Whatever you choose, the dishes remain vibrant, flavourful and surprisingly indulgent, proving that plant-forward cuisine is not only nourishing, but deeply satisfying and delicious.
My final thoughts
Fivelements Retreat Bali is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to experience a wellness retreat in Bali without having to sign up to a multi-week fixed itinerary. Its blend of culture, nature and wellness honours Bali’s traditions while catering to the modern-day wellness traveller. And with over a decade of experience in immersive wellness, this is without doubt the most trusted healing destination in Bali.
