Looking for fab fajitas, mega margaritas & tasty tacos? Head to these top Mexican restaurants in Bali for spice-packed food from Mexico... Arrrriba!
The Mexican food scene in Bali is surprisingly vast. There are hole-in-the-wall taquerias in Canggu, family-friendly cantinas in Ubud, and of course, that Seminyak institution made famous by its margaritas. So, I took the time (and the hangovers) to review each one. From handmade tortillas to loaded tostadas, Bali is home to some seriously good Mexican restaurants. Here’s my pick of the very best.
The best Mexican restaurants in Bali
1. Motel Mexicola – Seminyak & Canggu
Authentic Mexican food, hand-pressed tortillas, mezcal and slow-cooked Pib oven specialities

Ask anyone where to find great Mexican food in Bali, and Motel Mexicola will always top the list. At the Seminyak flagship, the menu takes inspiration from Mexico City’s vibrant street food scene, serving bold plates made for sharing. I always start with the ceviche clásico with tortilla chips, followed by grilled prawns or pescado Oaxaqueño. And yes, the churros are worth saving space for.
In Canggu, the focus shifts to the traditional Pib earth oven, where succulent meats are slow-cooked underground for more than 12 hours. The birria de res tacos are a standout – rich, tender beef folded into hand-pressed tortillas made from imported maseca. Pair it with a tres leches cake for dessert and you’ll see why I keep coming back.
Drinks are no afterthought either. Beverage director Denny Bakiev curates an impressive line-up of mezcals, tequilas and cocktails, all made with 100% blue agave. I recommend trying the Picante for a spicy kick, or a frozen margarita to bring down the heat.
Recommended dishes: Ceviche clásico, Birria de Res Tacos (Canggu only), Churros, Tres Leches Cake
Good to know: Seminyak is the original outpost, while Canggu is home to the Pib earth oven and Jardín Paraíso.
Local tip: Don’t miss Motel Mexicola’s iconic annual events, like Cinco De Mayo and NYE.
Where: Jl Kayu Jati No. 9X, Seminyak & Jl Pantai Batu Bolong No. 117X, Canggu
Opening hours: Daily, from 11am

2. Lacalita – Canggu & Seminyak
Modern Mexican food with house-made tortillas, signature moles and legendary spicy margaritas.

Lacalita is a Bali original I’ve been coming back to for years. It first opened in Seminyak in 2012, so you know a place is doing something right when it’s still teeming today. Then, long before Canggu became a thronging Bali hotspot, this homegrown Mexican began slinging tacos, tequila and good vibes in this cool neighbourhood too.
The menu balances bold Mexican Oaxacan flavours with California’s lighter, fresher approach, so expect small plates to share (ceviche, sliders and corn ribs), plus tacos and quesadillas made with fresh, gluten-free corn tortillas pressed in-house daily. The full-flavoured moles aren’t to be missed either. There’s a fall-apart beef cheek with red mole and tarragon crema, a smoky BBQ chicken with mole amarillo, and the crispy-skin snapper with green pea and almond mole.
Lacalita’s bar deserves its own shout-out too. I’m fairly sure Lacalita single-handedly kicked off Bali’s jalapeño margarita craze, which you can now order as part of a margarita flight. And take it from me, their Bloody Marys and Micheladas are the ultimate cure after a big night out in Canggu…
Recommended dishes: Beef Cheek Red Mole, Crispy Skin Snapper, Jalapeño Margarita.
Local tip: Lacalita has its own taco cart and mobile bar, so if you’re planning a villa party or wedding, they can bring the fiesta to you!
Good to know: The tortillas are made fresh daily and 100% gluten-free.
Where: Jl Pantai Batu Bolong No.68, Canggu, & Jl Drupadi No.1, Seminyak, Badung.
Opening hours: Daily, from 11am.
3. Tacos Aqui – Uluwatu
A Mexican restaurant and tequila bar for classic tacos, margaritas and fiesta.

For a technicolored Mexican fiesta fuelled by premium tequila, loaded tacos, and power-packed margaritas, my go-to is Tacos Aqui in Umalas and Uluwatu. I love how each location has its own character – the Umalas taqueria is quaint and cosy, while Uluwatu is a vibrant, double-story space designed like a psychedelic Hacienda ranch house, bursting with colour and energy.
As for the menu, I’m always impressed by the house-made tortillas, fresh salsas, and signature hot sauces. All-time favourites like the Birria, Al Pastor, and Chimichurri Steak remain at the heart of the restaurant, while new additions include a weekend brunch menu (every Friday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm), with dishes like breakfast burritos and tostadas alongside fresh juices and smoothies.
Then there’s the weekly events. Taco Tuesdays sling 35k tacos, while Fiesta Fridays transforms the Uluwatu space into a high-energy night with DJs and 2-for-1 cocktails from 8pm. It’s fun, full of flavour and fiesta vibes.
Recommended dishes: Birria & Al Pastor tacos, Chimichurri Steak.
Local tip: At the Uluwatu address, head out back to the restaurant’s own Club Corazon for a post-taco fiesta.
Good to know: Tacos Aqui has two Bali locations, in Umalas and Uluwatu.

4. Lola’s Cantina Mexicana – Canggu & Uluwatu
A vibrant Bali favourite for Cali-Mexican food, margaritas and late-night fiestas.

Lola’s Cantina Mexicana is a bit of a paradox. By day, it’s an easy, breezy, family-friendly cantina. By night, bold cocktails flow, the neon signage lights up, and the party crowds roll in to fill up on Cali-Mexican bites and mezcal cocktails. in fact, on a Friday night at the Uluwatu location, it’s the biggest party in town.
Try the empanadas, the chimichurri steak Taco Salad and the gooey quesadillas. You can fill them with a selection of meat, veggies or Mexican tempeh, and load them with dips and sauces. And yes, the churros with dulce de leche are a non-negotiable.
Recommended dishes: Barbacoa Taquitos, Quesadilla, Smokey Chipotle Ribs.

5. Jalapeño – Sanur & Canggu
A Tex-Mex cantina with homemade tortillas, Taco Tuesdays and weekly specials.

This cool and casual Tex-Mex restaurant is a great option for no-fuss Mexican food in both Canggu and Sanur. But don’t mistake its humble appearance – this place serves some of the best tacos on the island, and it’s locally owned too. Everything’s made from scratch, from the tortillas to the fresh salsa and even the nacho chips.
Baja fish, jackfruit carnitas and tender brisket – you’ll find all the Tex-Mex must-haves here. And just as you’d expect, the margaritas are served strong and salted.

A modern Mexican restaurant in Pererenan with handcrafted tortillas and bold designs.

You can’t miss Origen — literally. Its striking modern architecture stands loud and proud on Jl Pantai Pererenan, and yet, it’s the food that still steals the show. This is my happy place for authentic Mexican food made with Bali’s freshest produce and time-honoured techniques. The kitchen handmakes its own corn tortillas daily (a sure sign you’re in good hands), and the flavours are next-level.
Start with the tuna tostadas (they come perfectly seared with zesty toppings), then move on to the slow-cooked beef birria with melted mozzarella. The snapper ceviche was my fave, and the churros? Addictive. Pair it all with a mezcal margarita during the daily 2-for-1 Happy Hour, and you’ll quickly see why this place has become a Pererenan favourite.
Recommended dishes: Tostada de Atun, Tacos Quesa Birria, Ceviche Mexicano, Churros.
