Here's this week's lowdown on the coolest happenings as well as the things that really rustle our jimmies
The past week has been quite a downer with the loss of entertainment legends David Bowie and Alan Rickman. But, it’s a small consolation that this week also brings us news of a reunion special of a popular TV series, alongside food and nightlife happenings. Here’s what else we think is hot or not this week:
HOT
A reunion for iconic TV sitcom, Friends
Our favourite sextet of goofy New Yorkers are getting back together for a two-hour special on 21 Feb, paying tribute to director James Burrows who just directed his thousandth episode for television. We’d love to see the “The One Where They Got Back Together”, but rumour has it that Matthew Perry (AKA Chandler) might not be available on set. We’ll keep our fingers crossed nonetheless!
There’s gonna be a secret party at an unknown destination
The truth is, we don’t know very much about this mysterious shindig apart from its killer local line-up, but it’s the premise that has us hooked. Buy a ticket and wait at the pick-up point on Club Street, where you’ll be whisked off to a secret party location via a mystery bus. Scant, clandestine deets of the event here!
Cats are the only tourism ambassadors we need
YourSingapore’s latest tourism campaign features some of Tiong Bahru’s unsung heroes. This charming video puts the spotlight on the local cats that enliven the neighbourhood, all while promoting tourism in the area. That’s a win in our books!
Oxwell & Co has a new rooftop bar
We just love kicking back and enjoying a couple of quirky cocktails after work, and we especially love doing it at scenic rooftop bars, which is why we’re pretty thrilled about Oxwell & Co’s brand new rooftop bar. The bar features refreshing drinks like Bathtime (a sharing tub of tipple) and the Clover Club Street that feature botanical elements from the bar’s own herb garden.

It’s the best time of the year to get arty
Mark your calendars art buffs! From 16-24 January, you’ll get to check out some of the hottest exhibitions, screenings and tours at Singapore Art Week. You’ll get to immerse yourself in all manner of artistic works from both local and international artists. Have we you got your attention? Here’s our guide to Art Week Singapore.
NOT
Jennifer Lawrence becomes a snob
Yes, Hollywood’s sweetheart makes this list for her ill-mannered and asinine response to a foreign reporter for referring to his phone during a press conference. “You can’t live your whole life behind your phone bro,” she chided. The comment was completely uncalled for, especially considering the fact that this was a journalist whose first language wasn’t even English and was probably using his phone to aid his expression. Not very classy at all, J-Law.
RIP: Alan Rickman
In yet another blow to the entertainment world, veteran English stage and screen actor Alan Rickman passed away after a harrowing battle with cancer. The 69-year-old actor is well known for the breadth of his performances, ranging from the villainous Hans Gruber in Die Hard to the acerbic Dr Lazurus in Galaxy Quest. His most famous role, undoubtedly was the much maligned Severus Snape.
The Bring Me The Horizon concert has been postponed
Unfortunately for fans of Bring Me The Horizon, the cancellation of the Soundwave Festival in Australia has forced the band to postpone their much-awaited gig in Singapore. LAMC Productions has promised refunds for concertgoers who are unable to make it for the rescheduled gig, which is yet to be announced.
