What do you get when the one of the chicest women in fashion weds a real estate mogul? One seriously stylish party, that's what!
Earlier this month, Vogue Japan’s Senior Fashion Editor Giovanna Battaglia tied the knot with Oscar Engelbert in a spectacular three-day celebration on the sun-drenched island of Capri. And trust us when we say it was the wedding of the year.
Kicking off the festivities was a pre-wedding rehearsal dinner that took over Capri’s buzzing central square. The esteemed guest list (made up of the who’s who of the fashion world such as Vogue Japan’s Editor-at-Large Anna Dello Russo, Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet, and designer Giambattista Valli) were serenaded by opera singers while the bride-to-be dazzled in her usual flamboyant fashion: a white custom-made Azzedine Alaia dress with a tiered skirt and feathered bell sleeves.
Day two set the scene for the main event: a stunning cliff top ceremony overlooking the azure Mediterranean waters at sunset.
But let’s take a moment to behold THE DRESS. Always one to make a grand entrance, Giovanna played the part of blushing bride perfectly in a show-stopping Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding gown that featured a bead-encrusted bodice, crinoline skirt, and an endless train of organza ruffles.
With breath-taking views of Capri’s rocky coastline at dusk, the wedding dinner ensued. There, the bride swapped her gown for something a little more party-friendly: a 60’s-style caped Giambattista Valli lace dress and matching thigh-high Manolo Blahnik boots.
To cap things off with an almighty bang was the mother of all after-parties on the final night. Guests were ferried on a flotilla of boats to the middle of the Mediterranean Sea onto their final destination: a vast cargo barge transformed into a floating disco for one night only. From then on, it was full-on party mode: think disco lights, DJs from Ibiza, and go-go dancers to fit the party’s Bacchanalian theme.
Let it be known: fashionistas sure know how to throw one helluva wedding.
