Our gorgeous, leggy Honeycombers staffer, a retired international model (no surprise), and her New Zealander banker boyfriend of two years tied the knot last June in Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii, and we were green with envy – in a good way.
Inspired by Kate Moss’s free-spirited wedding, they opted for plenty of ivory, blush tones, and neutrals, and sprinkled in plenty of whimsical touches – think skeleton keys as place cards, a vintage globe as a guest book, and geronimo balloons. Take a peek at their love-filled big day on the beautiful, sun-drenched island-state as Lindsay shares the highlights of the wedding.
On their ceremony:
“The entire day reinforced the feeling of thankfulness both Ben and I have –not just for one another, but for the outpouring of love and support we receive on a daily basis from our family and friends. It was so much more beautiful than either of us had imagined and Hawaii was the perfect location – plus everyone was on holiday, which added another tier of good vibes! That much happiness, sunshine, and relaxation created such an idyllic day I could never have expected (especially since I was so anti-wedding!). I would not change a single thing.”
On the food:
“We wanted a lot of fresh local ingredients to fit the feel of Hawaii. We had dishes like ahi truffle avocado ceviche, kalua pig with island cornbread, and vanilla cake with lilikoi mousse and fresh mango. Our signature cocktail was a watermelon mojito. Yum!”
On DIY touches:
“I handmade our invitations (I even lined the envelopes and sealed them with wax), and My mum and I made all our flower boxes and brought them to Hawaii. we also handmade our place cards and my sister designed our programs/invitations from scratch, which made them very personal. ”
On the music:
“Picking our songs was an emotional part for us, as music is a large part of our lives. My dad is an insanely talented pianist, and for the father-daughter dance, he found a recording of a song he composed in 1991 which has me laughing and talking in the background. That choice was a no-brainer and meant so much to us both! For our first dance, we chose Resolution by Matt Corby. That song became the core of our relationship and though it was different, it fit us.”
On her favourite memory:
“My husband and his best mates performed a surprise New Zealand Haka. It was incredibly moving to witness, and I cannot put into words how special the fusing of our family, friends and cultures was to me. I’ll carry it with me always.”
Her advice for brides-to-be:
“Plan it just for the two of you – you aren’t there to prove anything but to celebrate the love you have found! If you want long speeches, have them. If you want hardcore rap, play it. If you don’t want to wear shoes, don’t. The only thing you will regret is doing something you didn’t want to.”
