Float above the treetops at one of the world’s most Instagrammed swimming pools. Imagine waking to the sun rising above idyllic lemongrass meadows, verdant gardens and rice paddies from the comforts of a plush villa in the Cambodian countryside. Modelled after traditional Khmer wooden houses, the resort comprises of 45 villas – some come with private terraces, and others are equipped with private plunge pools. Sekeping Retreats, Malaysia
If you’re travelling to Malaysia, you need to check out Sekeping Retreats – the group has gorgeous industrial-style guest houses dotted around the city. While we’ve always waxed lyrical about its Serendah locale, its other locations deserve a shoutout too. We particularly love its Victoria location in Penang, as well as Sin Chew Kee. All of them have have a converted warehouse-feel, with intentionally sparse rooms, raw concrete flooring, exposed brick walls and pipes, and bed frames and chairs made from wires.

Nay Palad Hideaway, Philippines
As the saying (of a very successful tourism campaign) goes, it truly is more fun in the Philippines. Case in point? Nay Palad Hideaway. The resort is your quintessential Southeast Asian paradise outside of Indonesia and Thailand. If you’re desperately escaping the Bangkok bustle, pack an overnight bag and head to Bangkok Tree House’s cosy nests in the sky. Located within a valley along Ayung River, the six-storey bamboo house is part of Green Village, a community made up of 18 dramatically hand-constructed bamboo properties. Sharma Springs is the latest addition – the jaw-dropping six-storey landmark is a forest-fantasy escape. It’s made entirely out of bamboo, and boasts custom-made furniture, four double rooms, a private pool and sunset views over the Ayung river valley and Green Village.

Crazy House
Resembling a bizarre Gaudi-esque fairytale treehouse, this kooky hotel is a top priority in any Vietnam bucket list. The fantastical 10-bedroom guesthouse is an exploration of surrealism with its cave-like staircases and hallways, uneven windows and hidden nooks. The bizarre, topsy-turvy hotel is also open to visitors during the day, but why not just spend a night here? Now that would be a story to tell.
