Stay up to date with the biggest beauty trends in 2023. Some are obvious contenders while others are revelations.
Beauty is ever-evolving and this year is no different. The power of social media is still as strong as ever (hello, TikTok). But much like our health and wellness trends, we’re also giving ourselves room to breathe by adopting a minimalist approach and a personalised routine. But that doesn’t mean we’re stripping it down altogether. We’re also paving the way for 80s, 90s and Y2K beauty looks and hairstyles. Presenting 2023’s biggest beauty trends.
9 beauty trends everyone will try in 2023
1. We’ll always welcome a good hack
You may have seen the viral falsies application hack going around TikTok. And that’s just the beginning of many new beauty trends to come. Beauty influencers, professional makeup artists and even dermatologists are riding on social media to share cool hacks. Our current faves include the one-second wing eyeliner and the ABCs of blush application. No gatekeeping around here!
2. Body skincare is in
We can’t believe many people are sleeping on this trend. Before you defend yourself, answer this question: do you apply SPF to other parts of your body on the daily? Or when was the last time you exfoliated in the shower? If you’re too embarrassed to answer, kickstart your body skincare regime in 2023 with four simple steps: cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise and use SPF. If you have more time, you can also do a pre-shower dry brush to slough away those dead cells or go in with post-shower body oil. Tip: treat body acne with salicylic acid.
3. Goodbye 10-step routine, hello “skinimalism”
NGL, we’re on the fence about this ‘cos we can’t bear to leave our 10-step K-beauty routine behind. But on days when skincare gets overwhelming, we turn to a refined list that’s all about efficiency and affordability. “Skinimalism” is all about targeting your concerns and using just what you need.
- Keep it basic: we like a simple cleanser, moisturiser, eye cream and sunscreen combo
- Use multitaskers that target various concerns
- Consider finishing your products before moving on to another
4. Beauty devices for treatments at home
We’ve noticed a surge in beauty devices entering our radar. Save for the price tag, we love indulging and amping up our skincare routine with some help at home. LED masks, revitalising massagers, UV LED nail lamps, devices that mimic a jade roller or gua sha… pick your fave.
5. Getting serious about your scents
We don’t know how but everyone was a perfume aficionado last year. Just search ‘perfumetok’ on TikTok and you’ll see what we mean. Popular unisex scents, classics for ladies, budget bottles and local perfume brands – there are a ton of ways to up your perfume game in 2023.
6. Personalised routines that transcend trends
Sure, skin slugging is a great way to lock in moisture and protect your skin barrier. But if the idea of piling on petroleum jelly doesn’t sit right with you, that’s totally fine. After all, some trends don’t cater to Singapore’s humidity and our lifestyles. Look to a routine that works for your skin type, day-to-day activities, budget and concerns. Beauty trends come and go but adopting mindful practices to your skincare or makeup routines will have a lasting effect in the long run.
7. Multi-taskers and multi-use hybrids for your vanity table
Speaking of mindful practices, downsizing your stash with multi-tasking beauty products and skincare with multi-use hybrids is the way to go. Staples in our bag include tinted moisturisers with SPF, cleansing balms and makeup removers, as well as cheek, eye, and lip multi-colour sticks, just to name a few.
8. Layers and bangs
Nah, it’s not the name of an indie band. It’s a style your hairstylist will probably recommend this year. We’ve seen a variety of layered cuts and choppy bangs in 2022, though we never expected a combination of both. But hey, it works!
9. Throwback trends for a little nostalgia
The trends that we grew up loving are making a modernised and refined comeback. We’re talking about trends from the 80s to Y2K. Expect the all-around glossy look, futuristic iridescence and glitter looks (read: Euphoria-style makeup), glam grunge (thanks, Wednesday Addams), and even the Barbiecore aesthetic.
We’re stoked to see what else 2023 has to offer in the beauty realm. In the meantime, these beauty trends will keep you occupied.
