The first TEDx in Hong Kong entirely devoted to females, TEDxTinHauWomen aims to bring people from a diverse range of backgrounds and areas of expertise together, in a celebration of female empowerment
The culture in Hong Kong, though deeply rooted in tradition is constantly changing and evolving. We see this through the thriving art scene, the growing acceptance of the LGBT community and the ever expanding number of female entrepreneurs. In a city once completely dominated by patriarchal rule, we are seeing a new appreciation for women and what they offer to society, so we are looking forward to attending TEDxTinHauWomen in November.
TEDx launches TEDxTinHauWomen
TEDx is a world renowned conference that invites local speakers within the community to discuss topics of technology, entertainment and design, and to exchange ideas that are important to our society today. On 3 November, TEDx will be launching TEDxTinHauWomen in Hong Kong at the Cube in PMQ. The only annual TEDx event dedicated to women in Hong Kong, its name – Tin Hau, meaning the goddess of the sea – pays homage to Chinese tradition, Hong Kong’s unique coast and womanhood itself.
The new event will be running alongside the global TEDWomen conference which will be taking place in New Orleans at the same time. This year’s topic will be Bridges which has been adapted to Two become One specifically for Hong Kong. The programme is made up of local organisers that aim to inspire, motivate and connect the Hong Kong community, such as Cristina Tahoces, Liza Avelino, Fiona Callanan-Thorsby, Lucy Choi, Tricia Yap, Joey Law and Hillary Yip.
TEDxTinHauWomen will also feature exclusive talks from the global TEDWomen in New Orleans, live-streamed in Hong Kong. Learn from a number of inspirational women and feel empowered by the daring discussions that showcase the true strength of women and girls in Hong Kong and throughout the world.
