Got curves for days? Check out these size inclusive options for mid and plus size shopping in Hong Kong
If you are of a bigger size, you know shopping in Hong Kong can be an absolute nightmare. Not only are people of East Asian ethnicity generally petite compared to folk of Western or South Asian descent, but thin is also the ideal. But with the rise of the body positivity movement, and greater awareness about the perils of dieting on mental and physical health, we are finally starting to see greater size representation. In the US, anything above a size 18 is considered plus size, whereas those between size 10-16 are considered midsize. Hong Kong is yet to make that distinction, but it is slowly and steadily getting there in terms of accommodating people of all shapes and sizes. Fashion, after all, is for everyone! So if you are looking to buy something cute and trendy, or even prim and proper, check out these shops across Hong Kong that carry mid and plus size clothes.
Mid and plus size shopping in Hong Kong
1. Fashion Corner Plus
Makayla Ng founded Fashion Corner Plus out of her own frustration with the death of options for larger sizes in Hong Kong. The ethos of the brand, that beauty has nothing to do with size, is inspiring and relatable. From the fabrics, to the design and cutting, to the actual garment, the clothes are made with voluptuous bodies in mind to help you feel comfortable and confident. They carry sizes from an M all the way to a 8XL (UK 10 to 28/ US 6 to 24), providing a huge variety of styles and sizes. For more fashion inspiration, follow #ourcurvystyle on Instagram.

2. My Rules Hong Kong

Another homegrown brand, My Rules Hong Kong, was launched by Gloria Tsui Hiu-ming, who was tired of loose fitting or dark coloured clothes options typically available in plus sizes. Instead she makes her own rules and clothes, offering fun and flirty clothes for a wide range of sizes (usually L to 3XL). They also offer underwear, including bras! Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking to add something interesting and new to your wardrobe.

3. XSXXL
One of the few men’s focused stores on the list, XSXXL was founded by John Wu in 2007. Importing the latest men’s fashion, in plus sizes, from all around the world, carrying popular labels such as X-Five, Yokozuna, Mountain Range, Levi’s, Wrangler, Ralph Lauren, Stussy, Buden Shouten, Adidas, Carhartt and Outdoor, to name but a few. Carrying sizes from 2XL to 8XL, they want everyone to know that, “style has no size.”

4. LoveIt
A great option if you are looking for investment, long term pieces, LoveIt offers a range of sizes or, if you don’t quite fit the mould (not many of us do!), they offer customization options. Their standard sizes run from UK 4 – 20 (US 0 – 16) but you can customize to your needs for no extra cost. Although their prices are definitely on the higher end, their fabrics are truly beautiful, and can come in a variety of colours and prints. They also offer styling advice – from what undergarments to wear, to what would look good for that first date – from designers who are women just like you.

5. Marks & Spencer
You probably already know this, and you may have already frequented it, as Marks & Spencer is a staple in Hong Kong for those of curvy shapes. The in-person store carries up to a UK 18, already a wider range than most shops in Hong Kong, but their online store has UK size 6 to 24 (US 2 to 20). It might not be the trendiest of clothes, but you won’t go wrong in terms of quality and style. They also offer a wide range of sizes for shoes, which people often seem to forget about! Plus with shops around Hong Kong, you can try out in person.

Online options for mid and plus size shopping
And of course, if you are open to online shopping, the options are endless. While shipping fees can add up, you have access to all the great stores around the US or UK, as well as other locations. The Curve and Plus Size line at Asos includes clothes that are not only trendy and fun, but they also offer sizes from UK 16 to 38, although most styles stop at a UK 30 in their women’s selection. In the men’s section, you can find sizes from 2XS to 6XL and also offer long options for the taller folk. Shein also has a Curve and Plus selection with women’s sizes ranging from 0XL to 5XL; men’s sizing also comes from XXS to 5XL. The prices at Asos and Shein are truly unbeatable but – like all fast fashion – that also comes with quality and ethical issues. But if you’re able and willing to spend a bit more, some of the favourite international plus size shops include: Torrid, Nordstrom’s Girlfriend Collective and Universal Standard, while for men there’s Bad Rhino.
