Eaton HK presents 24 Hours in Movement: Pegged Legs, Hooked Hands, Hong Kong’s first 24 hour movement and dance festival.
Curated by Alice Rensy, the festival features performances by more than 40 artists from Hong Kong and overseas throughout an entire day of dance, film, music, literature and other dramatic showpieces.
Unlike a typical theatre performance, the programme for 24 Hours in Movement: Pegged Legs, Hooked Hands spans throughout the Eaton HK building continuously. Embracing the site-specific context of each performance within a public environment is artistically at the centre of the programme, fostering a unique relationship between artists, audience and passers-by as the day unfolds.
From 7.00am guests can watch sunrise by the flamingo-studded swimming pool on the 21st floor over hot coffee. Dance and drama performances will then follow each other, encouraging the audience to travel around the hotel throughout the day. Highlights include parkour during breakfast; acrobatics and Cantonese opera at The Astor 普慶 over dinner, a special section on love and instability within families at 逸東軒 Yat Tung Heen, dramatic readings in Tomorrow Maybe; a partnership with Hong Kong Ballet, a classical performance by Cambodia’s only gay dance troupe, and much more.
At 5pm, ‘For The Record’ – an open-call “two on two” street dance competition takes place at the Eaton HK Ballroom ‘Maggie.’ Featuring 3x World Champion B-boy Ben BoxWon Barnes and an array of top-level performers from Hong Kong’s street dance community as judges, the event utilizes the Hip-Hop principles of “peace, unity, love and having fun,” to highlight talent across dance disciplines, both foreign and local. The competition will go on until a winner is crowned in the finals at 9pm, after which the party continues all night long in the hotel at Terrible Baby.
24 Hours in Movement: Pegged Legs, Hooked Hands programme aims to reveal beauty in hidden places, and at the same time take a step back to look at how we are being shaped by and responding to our environments.
General Admission is FREE for all. Please RSVP on Eventbrite.
Guests attending ‘For The Record Street Dance Competition’ will need to get a ticket which is priced at $100HKD.
