Verdy’s Iconic Character – Vick as the Theme of the Exhibition for the First Time
The first collaborating artist of this project is the Japanese acclaimed graphic designer and street artist Verdy, whom signature artworks include “Girls Don’t Cry” and “ Wasted Youth”. He is constantly collaborating with different creative units in the form of POP-UP STORE to create experimental yet popular work. After showcasing the collaborative artworks with Takashi Murakami at Tokyo’s BOOKMARC in October, Verdy will team up with《MEET___PROJECT》by AllRightsReserved for the first time and launch an exhibition《MEET VERDY GALLERY》, running from November 15 (Friday) to November 21 (Thursday) in Hong Kong. The 7-feet tall 3D Sculpture of Vick will be showcased in the gallery accompanied by the brand new wood cut paintings. It will be the first time that Vick is presented in a 3D Sculpture.
Vick, an original character hybridizing rabbit and panda
It is the first time Verdy curated a Vick-themed exhibition, which is an original character hybridizing rabbit and panda. Vicky said, he was inspired to create Vick when he first created a POP art penguin for the deceased Hip-Hop artist Mac Miller. When the singer appreciated this creation so much, which makes him want to create his own unique character too. He chose to combine panda and rabbits together since they are the symbols of positivity and longevity, and uses his friend’s name Vick Okada as inspiration for the character. Although it is not rare to see Vick in Verdy’s work before, it is the first time this panda and rabbit-like character to have its own themed art exhibition. Verdy thinks that Vick separated itself from “Girls Don’t Cry” and “Wasted Youth” with completely different style. He considers himself as a manager of Vick, hoping it could find its own spotlight to shine. He anticipated it so much now that his dream is coming true in《MEET VERDY GALLERY》.
