To many, a pint of beer is equivalent to a trusty best mate – an unconditional companion to perk you up (or a source of solace for drowning your sorrows) for the day ahead. As such, the activity of ale or lager appreciation is no light matter; so much so, that we’ve seen a healthy surge of craft beer culture in the past few years. Naturally, we expect many beer connoisseurs to be hopping mad upon hearing this announcement: Singapore is launching its first ever craft beer festival come March 2016!
Dubbed CRAFT Singapore 2016, this festival is set to get revelries brewing at Marina Bay, coinciding with iLight Marina Bay 2016. We can tell you right now that you’ll be spoilt for choice, ’cos word has it that there will be hundreds of beers (and ciders!) being showcased from more than 25 local and international brewers. You can expect boozin’ big players from Asia like Archipelago and Brewerkz, and even up-and-comers like Little Island Brewing Company. But if you ask us, browse through all 25 booths of specialty beers ’til you’re tipsy; we’re sure you’ll be tempted by some new tipples.
(NEW!) What’s that? Can’t drink on an empty stomach? No need to panic; CRAFT Singapore 2016 has your (beer)bellies covered with four of the most trendy food vendors in town. Never mind the usual suspects of bar grub, for these stalls will have you addicted to their unorthodox bites that are just as enticing. Does the dim sum gourmand in you like the sound of Cantonese baos stuffed with prawns and salted egg yolk? The brand new Full Of Luck Club – debuting only at this festival – will sort you out. Vatos Urban Tacos will make you loco with its take on Ko-Mex (Korean meets Mexican) cuisine; the galbi short rib tacos are a winner. The Butchers Club butchers the competition with the some of the juiciest beef burgers around – the duck fat fries are ever so sinful. And if you’re a sandwich kinda muncher, Park Bench Deli delivers with flavours like PB&J and the Vietnamese Kong Bak Banh Mi.
Oh, so you’re thinking that people would probably be embarrassingly sloshed and you might wanna leave the kids at home? Worry not, ’cos CRAFT Singapore 2016 promises to be family-friendly with activities that even your young’uns can enjoy (and no, we don’t mean having a ‘sip’). Here, you’ll find fringe day and night activities like masterclasses, live musicians and DJs, and other kid-friendly antics such as balloon-sculpting and face-painting. Just remember: you’re the adult here, so drink responsibly!
