Five new coffee spots you need to know
Coffee is our drug, period. If you’re anything like us, and can’t start the day right without a strong dose of caffeine, you’ll want to check out these five new coffee spots (and some of our old favourites) in the CBD.
My Awesome Café
So, you may have read about this cool new café from our Hot New Tables. Taking over the space that used to house Chung Hwa Free Clinic, My Awesome Café is an eye-catching retro-inspired space along the Telok Ayer stretch. They open their doors early at 745am, so drop by to grab a cuppa along with some freshly baked sandwiches and French pastries for brekkie.
My Awesome Café, 202 Telok Ayer, Singapore 068630, p. 8428 0101. Open Mon-Tue 745am-9pm, Wed-Fri 745am-12am, Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
One 28
Who’s excited about Club Street’s new coffee joint? We sure are! With beans sourced from specialty coffee roasters Papa Palheta, you can expect the coffee here to be oh so good. Even though it’s only for take-away, without any sit in space, the good folk at One 28 do office deliveries.
One 28, 31 Club Street 0102, Singapore 069468, p. 8321 7354. Open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 10am-4pm.
One Shot Coffee
There’s no way you’ll miss this push-cart coffee kiosk, located right outside the main entrance of Prudential Tower. Choose between two choices of beans – Highlander or Sarnies – and their super friendly baristas will brew your coffee, pronto. Grab a pick-me-up note from their bowl of motivational quotes (written on little slips of paper) while you’re there. It’ll brighten up your day, we promise!
One Shot Coffee, Prudential Tower, Singapore 049712, p. 9424 1732. Open Mon-Fri 7am-5pm.
Artisan Boulangerie Co.
Although their delectable pastries (warning: you might end up choosing one of everything) undoubtedly take center-stage here, this contemporary French bakery brews a mean cuppa too! They win brownie points for convenience – with other outlets at Killiney Road, Great World City, The Metropolis at North Buona Vista, and VivoCity as well.
Artisan Boulangerie Co., #01-02, Asia Square Tower 2, 12 Marina View, Singapore 018961, p. 6844 9907. Open Mon-Fri 8am-10pm.
Dean & Deluca
We were so stoked when Dean & Deluca arrived on our shore, and now that they have opened their second outlet in our hood, can we say – score! Order up a latte to go and do a little gourmet grocery shopping (don’t forget to grab a pack of their roasted coffee beans) while you’re there.
Dean & Deluca, Far East Square, #01-01, 47 Pekin Street, Singapore S048761, p. 6536 2460. Open daily 8am-9pm.
Old Favourites
Shenton Way: It’s gotta be Jewel Coffee, hands down. Whether it’s espresso-based, Chemex, V60 drip, or Syphon, they’ve got you covered. Check out their coffee sensory and appreciation classes too!
Telok Ayer: For a dose of Dutch Colony coffee and some of the yummiest muffins (we like the apple blueberry crumble and orange dark chocolate almond!) in the CBD, it’s gotta be The Muffinry. Modelled after traditional bakeries in France, Sophie Bakery is one of our go-to spots to grab a cinnamon roll and perk-me-up coffee. And then there’s trusty Sarnies with their delicious, full-bodied dark roast, but be prepared to wait a while for it.
Cecil Street: 6 Oz Espresso Bar is a sleek, street-side café (along McCallum Street), with a lovely alfresco area for some quiet alone time over fine coffee or casual client meetings. You can tell from our filled loyalty cards that Dimbulah is one of our favourite coffee spots. Serving up fine Aussie coffee all around the CBD, you can also find them at Chevron House, Anson House, Commerce Point, and along Market Street.
Duxton/Craig Road: We’ll admit it – we’re totally torn between The Plain and Department of Caffeine. On some days, we love seeking respite with a smooth Genovese brew (and a serving of all-day breakfast) in their clean, minimalist café space, while on other days; we’re drawn to industrial-chic Department of Caffeine and their Five Senses brew (distributed by Common Man Coffee Roasters).
Collyer Quay: We love the fact that Stranger’s Reunion has opened up their mini take-away kiosk – Strangers At Work – in The Arcade. Try their magic coffee, boasting the magic ratio of espresso and milk! Located along the QUE link, Coffeesmith is a quaint café that’s perfect for a quiet, quick cuppa.
