Enough with your vanilla taste in ice cream! The Daily Scoop's 13 new wacky but wonderful ice cream flavours will surprise you
Think you’ve got vanilla tastes when it comes to ice cream? I do too. Oh don’t get me wrong – I love ‘em frozen treats, but in ways I know it best: with the plainest of flavours (i.e chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate). So when I got wind of The Daily Scoop’s 13th anniversary launch of its 13 new flavours, I took it as a personal challenge. On the special edition menu were some comfortingly familiar ones, including a delectably dark single origin dairy-free chocolate sorbet with espresso and a sugar-free chocolate and mint concoction.
But after dipping my spoon in the 11 other (chocolate-free) ones, here’s my resounding conclusion: strange flavours should always be a thing.
Take the Miso Sesame Brittle. While typically tangy on its own, miso in this instance lent a subtly salty finish, while the sesame brittle added deep, nutty notes. Others we oohed and aahed over were the Saffron Honey Lassi (sprinkled with pistachios for a lovely crunch), Yuzu, and Calamansi Lemongrass, which contains candied chilli lemon peel for a citrusy, feisty kick.
Still erring on the side of convention? Crowd favourites Toasty Marshmallow and La Vie En Rose (bandung flavoured ice cream with marshmallows) are sure to hit your sweet spot.
These flavours will be launched week by week from 2 October to 22 December, with two to three available at any time at all of its four outlets. Have yours with the rainbow sprinkled cones, or atop freshly made waffles or crepes (available from mid October). They come without the guilt factor too, as they’re made with low-fat milk and without eggs. Score!
