In this month’s edition of Hot New Cafes: actually delicious vegan food, baked durian and an ethical cafe
Can’t wait for the weekend already? Neither can we. If you haven’t got your dining plans sorted just yet, ahead is a guide to May’s hottest new cafe openings. We’ve got a couple of exciting ones in store, including a durian cafe, an ethical space and a coffee nook in the CBD.
HRVST Cafe & Bar
If you’ve got a vendetta against vegan food, prepare to have your life changed. The days of dull, plant-based dining are over with HRVST Cafe & Bar. The in-house cafe of boutique gym Kilter Avenue, its menu features an all-star lineup of soy satay, Bak Kut Teh of barley risotto and pumpkin gnocchi. So good, you’ll forget it’s vegan.
HRVST, OUE Downtown Gallery, 6A Shenton Way, #05-01, Singapore 068815

Bearded Bella
Befitting its inspiration of Melbourne’s cafes, Bearded Bella serves up excellent coffee brews. Its founders have a long history at some of Singapore’s pioneering cafes, including Stranger’s Reunion. On the menu, you’ll find comforting cafe favourites like avo toast and grain bowls, as well as unique dishes like mushroom and hummus, and slow cooked pork jowls with poached eggs.
Bearded Bella, 8 Craig Road, Singapore 089668

Liberty Coffee
Coffee diehards love Liberty Coffee. For starters, these guys source speciality beans from all over the world, including Kenya, Brazil and Indonesia, and roast them in Singapore. Its new space in Jalan Besar may have pastas, sandwiches and finger food but make no mistake: coffee is still the star. The brew bar takes centerstage to showcase the cafe’s unique blends and single origin coffees.

Wolf
The CBD has a new lunch spot, and it’s set to be hot competitor. 14 types of rice bowls are offered here, with generous proteins like salmon mentai, king oyster mushrooms and short ribs. Opened by Local Coffee People, the brews here are seriously potent for CBD drones looking for an afternoon pick-me-up.
Wolf, 30 Raffles Place, #01-42, Singapore 048622

The Social Space
New to the ethical and socially conscious scene is The Social Space: a boutique, nail salon and cafe all rolled into one. We could wax lyrical about its retail section and refill station but its cafe is worth raving about too. A simple and honest menu is served here, with toasts, feel-good smoothie bowls and desserts sourced from fair-trade and eco-friendly producers.
The Social Space, 333 Kreta Ayer Rd, #01-14, Singapore 080333
Double Durian
Yep, it’s exactly how it sounds. Double Durian celebrated the prickly, pungent fruit in all its forms – baked, blended in a smoothie and even in a crepe cake. Swing by for a hearty meal, have a fruit dessert or premium versions of the fruit.
Double Durian, 8 Hamilton Road, Singapore 209179
