Shoot some pool, eat yakitori, indulge in cigars, and relax with live music at this supersized bar restaurant at Furama Waterfront
Not a fan of cramped and crowded hole-in-the-wall bars? Well here’s some news for you: Singapore’s largest bar restaurant, Hive, is set to open on Havelock road this Friday.
Helmed by Stanley Yeo, proprietor of the exuberant Holland Village institution, Wala Wala – known for rowdy live music and finger-licking bar grub – this new venture aims to make guests feel at home in a casual and convivial setting. But cosy isn’t a word we’d use to describe this massive bar. Hive boasts a stunning 400-seat capacity shared between an indoor seating area and a large alfresco area. And what does Hive do with all that space? Behold: Hive hosts four unique concept sections; a wine retail shop, bakery, cigar room and the bar restaurant itself. A hub for shopping, chilling like a gent, and boozing up with bites – what’s not to love?
Hive also aims to be more than just a place to wet your whistle. Sports junkies can catch the latest matches broadcast live on cable TV while the pool sharks can engage in friendly (or not-so-friendly) rounds of pool at the tables. Like Wala Wala, Hive will host live bands with its state of the art audio and lighting equipment, for those of you who want to kick back to some killer tunage and down a couple of pints.
Of course, you’ll probably be a wee bit peckish after that, so feast on local delights like roast meats and noodles from noon to six, after which the menu goes izakaya style with a selection of yakitori treats. Sounds like we found ourselves a new go-to waterhole!
