Semi Permanent Festival of Creativity & Design joins Audi Singapore’s House of Progress showcase with ‘City Utopia’: a series of design-focused events featuring special guest Liam Young
As part of the event series, Semi Permanent and Audi Singapore will welcome special guest Liam Young. A designer, director and BAFTA-nominated producer who operates in the spaces between design, fiction and futures, Young has been described by the BBC as ‘the man designing our futures’; his visionary films and speculative worlds are both extraordinary images of tomorrow and urgent examinations of the environmental questions facing us today. As a worldbuilder he visualises the cities, spaces and props of our imaginary futures for the film and television industry and with his own films he has premiered with platforms ranging from Channel 4, Apple+, SxSW, Tribeca, the New York Metropolitan Museum, The Royal Academy, Venice Biennale, the BBC and The Guardian.
As part of the three days, Young will present
Planet City, a speculative city for 10 billion people – the entire population of the earth in the near future – as a collaborative response to climate change through science, technology, and art. In an additional conversational masterclass, the director will
delve further into the topic of future urbanism, unpacking the methodologies of worldbuilding in an intimate setting. To conclude the series, Young will be joined by Singaporean artist and educator Zen Teh, Roger&Sons director Morgan Yeo, Audi Singapore managing director Markus Schuster, and host Anita Kapoor for a panel discussion to devise a blueprint for our urban centres of the future.
