If you’re familiar with Korean culture, you’ll know that the 14th of April is when single Koreans who missed out on the lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day celebrations get their own unofficial observance: Black Day. Despite the foreboding name, it’s not all doom and gloom. Clad in black, these singletons commemorate Black Day by eating jjajangmyeon (Korean black bean sauce noodles) with their other single friends, or commiserating their singlehood alone *pat pat*.
To celebrate Black Day in Singapore (and maybe even change your relationship status), Korean fast food joint Jinjja Chicken and dating service Lunch Actually have partnered up to throw an exclusive event for single men and women to mingle. While Jinjja Chicken may be famous for its Korean fried chicken, that’s not all they serve up. True to the spirit of Black Day, Jinjja Chicken will be treating you to free bowls of jjajangmyeon. Best part? Admission is free, and the only pre-requisite is to be single and ready to mingle.
But not to worry, if group-dating events aren’t your cup of tea, you can always visit Jinjja chicken during black week (10-17 April) for a free bowl of jjajangmyeon. The only catch is you’ll have to make a public declaration on Jinjja Chicken’s Facebook page that you’re “single and happy” – nothing to be shy about!. Plus, come clad in black and you’ll blag yourself a free gift too.
Black Day Lunch Party by Jinjja Chicken and Lunch Actually, 10 April, 10.30am-12.30am. Dress code: Smart (no slippers, shorts or bermudas). Event will be held at Jin Jia Chicken, 249 Victoria Street, Singapore 188034.
