Home to some of the best hip-hop and r&b parties in Singapore, Refuge (by the folks behind kyo) is back in business at City Hall
For many, hip-hop is a spiritual thing that’s manifested across generations in ever-changing forms – from the Golden Age and G-funk, to crunk and grime, and it continues to evolve and reel in hype even ’til this day. So we must say it’s pretty apt to find this Singapore club and prime-time player of the local hip-hop scene upping the spirituality factor, by taking up residence in the historical church-grounds of CHIJMES. Yup, here’s some nightlife news that gets our dab of approval: Refuge is finally back in business! Amen to that.
Since vacating its multi-storied premises along Circular Road earlier this year, Refuge – run by the folks who operate kyō, another bangin’ club – has spent months teasing about its much-anticipated comeback. Its new space in the centrally-located CHIJMES occupies the former sites of clubs that’ve come and gone, such as Rakes and an.t.t, but we certainly hope this thrilling tenancy is a permanent one.
Refuge is a sanctuary for musos who love their hip-hop, trap, r&b and even reggae, making it one of the most focused and consistent clubs in the circuit. It’s having a soft launch party on 18 and 19 November that’s looking to be a two-hit wallop, and you can count on us doing a review once it fully opens. Come through, and stay lit (that’s what they say, don’t they?).
Refuge, #B1-03 CHIJMES, 30 Victoria Street, Singapore 187996. For more information on upcoming events, visit this website.
