Now known as Sunday at the Shed, this alfresco, family-friendly party is back with more BBQ, graffiti, kids activities and chilled-out DJs
The party peeps at Sideshow sure know how to keep us on our toes! Hearts shattered when they announced in November 2015 that their Sunday at the Training Shed shindigs had called it a day, but were eventually patched up when the alfresco, family-friendly bash found a new home at Kult Kafe, rebooted as Sunday on the Hill. All peachy.
Now, Kult Kafe is dope and all, but its colonial charm is admittedly worlds apart from the greenery-hugged hideout of the party’s original Labrador Park digs – vaster open spaces for the kids to scamper through, a cosier cluster of BBQ pits and bars, and boogies under guerrilla-styled gazebos even if it stormed. It was grittier, sure, but it had character; I’m sure punters who frequented the old joint would agree.
So brace yourself as I drop this piece of news… Sunday at the Training Shed has come home! Although officially rebranded as Sunday at the Shed, Tom Shellsuit (DJ and honcho of the Sideshow crew) has reassured me that the locale is exactly the same, and will now run bi-monthly with parties still held at Kult Kafe on alternate months. Better than nothing, if you ask me!
For its homecoming gig, Sunday at the Shed is busting out the big guns with guest selectors Tall Black Guy (Detroit) who dabbles in hip-hop, and Aaron DRM (New York) who spins everything from dub to Afrobeat. Graffiti artist, Jaba One, will also be dropping by for live tagging and mind-messing murals. And naturally, Sideshow OGs, Shellsuit and Stew, will be supporting all night long with chilled-out cuts of tunage.
Welcome home! We’ve missed you at the Training Shed.
Sunday at the Shed, 12 March, Labrador Park, 8 Port Road, Singapore 117540. Free entry.
