One of our favourite bars in Sentosa has just made our post-work and weekend drinking sessions in Singapore all the better with new rum cocktails, Cuban dishes and outdoor furnishings
A bar’s ambience can make all the difference to your drinking experience in Singapore. Imagine: you’re looking forward to catching up with your BFF, but you can’t hear each other over your fancy G&Ts. Celebrating a big win? That romantic wine bar down the street from your workplace probably isn’t such a great idea.
For times when we’re craving a delicious tipple at a place where the world feels oh-so far away, one drinking spot comes to mind: Bob’s Bar at Capella Singapore. The chilled-out bar is an elegant nod to the Golden Age of Cuba, and it offers some of the finest rums you can find in the city, plus stunning views of the lush greenery surrounding the enchanting, colonial-styled resort. You might forget, after a few cocktails, that this neutral-hued retreat is actually in Singapore.
While we consider Bob’s Bar’s relaxing ambience second to none, Capella Singapore decided it’s time to go one up. The breezy alfresco terrace now seats 110 (previously 80), and boasts a brand-new set of daybeds, sofas and dining tables for your evening bites, post-work tipples or a private party. That’s not all: the bar has also refreshed both its cocktail and food menu for more Cuban goodness.
If you adore rum, try to contain your excitement; the new menu features 15 rum-based cocktails, some of which are made with Navegante, Capella Singapore’s very own brand of bespoke rum that hails all the way from Barbados and is specially crafted by master blender Richard Seale. Even if you aren’t devoted to rum, we’re pretty sure you could easily drink three of their light and refreshing signatures, including Daisy de Santiago, a classic Cuban cocktail, or a Pineapple Julep.
Hungry? Order a sandwich – but this one at Bob’s isn’t the type that you hightail back to your desk during lunch hour. The Sandwich Panini Cubano is lavishly stuffed with gourmet ham, pulled pork, cheese, and pickles, dressed with mustard, and toasted to perfection. There’s also the healthy Salad Frijoles Colorados if you’re feeling conscious, and the barbecued wagyu beef, chicken and lamb skewers for the carnivorous.
Sure, Bob’s Bar has a mellow, tranquil vibe perfect for winding down after a long day. But come weekends, get ready for a jolt of Cuban nightlife with Latin house and vocal music on Saturdays from 5pm onwards, and live music performed by a three-piece instrumental band on Sundays from 3pm to 6.30pm.
Mark your calendars!
On 23 July 2016, Capella Singapore is celebrating the revamp of Bob’s Bar with “A Night at Varadero”, a buzzy Carribean-themed party. Of course, there’ll be Salsa dancing, a Havana-style barbecue station, a pop-up mojito bar, a special Rum Appreciation sesh, and groovy live music. The revelry kicks off at 6pm with salsa, and the first 50 bookings enjoy an extra mojito on the house!
