Get your croissants at the new Tiong Bahru Bakery branch, check out PS Cafe’s new baby and stuff yourself silly with cakes.
What can we say? We’re good at hunting for the best pastries and bakes, trying out cuisines in town from Mexican to mod-sin, and hawker fare to keep it real, on top of the game with new spots to eat and honestly, all we ever do is plan our next meal. Food news and culinary happenings? You can trust us.
Tiong Bahru Bakery comes to Chip Bee Gardens!
Tiong Bahru Bakery has expanded well beyond Eng Hoon St, but it’s latest branch (in the just-as-charming Chip Bee Gardens) still captures the feels of the neighbourhood bakery-cafe. What do we love? The takeaway window so you can grab your coffee and pastry while strolling by, the mad ‘three wise monkeys’ mural and cosy vibes. Oh, and the croissants: always handmade, with French butter. We’re told they’re baked every two hours during the week and every hour during weekends to keep up with demand. Yes, they’re that good.

Keeping it casual Japanese
Let’s welcome the new baby of the PS.Cafe group, JYPSY! Here’s where Japanese cuisine takes on a contemporary and casual approach in a stylish coastal and lush setting. We’ve already gone to check out this hot new restaurant and as much as we love the unagi fried rice, tender beef tataki, chicken karaage in curry mayo, the JYPSY king salmon tacos in a seaweed shell and pretty much whatever we ate, we were equally taken in by the casual and relaxed, navy blue uniforms… JYPSY, No.38 Martin Road, Singapore 239072
Celebrate the Summer Unagi Festival at Mikuni
When you think of summer, you think of ice cream, milkshakes and smoothies. In Japan, there’s more. Traditionally consumed during the summer season, unagi (freshwater eel) is rich in vitamins and proteins, and believed to help beat the heat and boost strength and vitality for the rest of the year. Go on an unagi-tasting binge at Fairmont Singapore’s Mikuni where eel from the Shizuoka prefecture is the highlight. Executive Chef Keisuke Uno will be serving up several Japanese favourites, along with star of the show, Hamamatsu Chargrilled Una-Jyu paired with Kimosui (eel liver soup) and a side of mixed Japanese pickles.

Shack up with Weis Sorbet
Too hot to trot on the streets? Make a quick stop at the coolest (literally) pop-up store in town, the Weis Sorbet Shack. An all-time Australian favourite, Weis ice cream only uses real fruit from local growers in the region of Toowoomba, Australia. From 9 July to 12 August daily you can grab a scoop (or two!) of your favourite Weis sorbet along Orchard Road. Choose between Australian Mango, Refreshing Lemon and Summer Berries. We know, they’re ALL perfect for this muggy weather.
